OBAMA: 'WE DON'T HAVE A STRATEGY YET' ON ISIS

Obama makes a statement from the White House press briefing room ahead of a meeting with his national security council.

U.S. President Barack Obama addressed a pair of escalating world crises Thursday afternoon, blaming Russia for escalating violence in eastern regions of Ukraine and discussing a strategy he admitted he didn't "have yet" to confront the extremist group calling itself the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (also ISIS or ISIL).His statement from the White House briefing amid a day of significant escalation in the crisis in Ukraine, as Ukraine's president accused Russia of sending troops across the border to fight with pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine's southeastern regions. Obama said it was clear the ongoing violence had been "encouraged" by Russia, who he said trained and armed separatists in the violence-stricken regions.
"Russia is responsible for the violence in eastern Ukraine," Obama said. "This ongoing Russian incursion into Ukraine will only bring more costs and consequences for Russia."
Obama is scheduled to meet Thursday evening with members of his National Security Council, as well as Vice President Joe Biden, on a strategy to further confront the extremist group ISIS in Iraq and Syria. A White House official said no new decisions are expected on how to proceed Thursday.
"I don't want to put the cart before the horse," Obama said, when asked about the next steps in confronting the group.
"We don't have a strategy yet," he said.
The U.S. conducted five additional airstrikes against the group in Iraq on Thursday, according to U.S. Central Command. The airstrikes destroyed a Humvee, a tank, four armed vehicles, and a construction vehicle, as well as severely damaging an ISIS checkpoint. Over the past three weeks, the U.S. has conducted 106 airstrikes against ISIS targets in Iraq.
Obama is weighing a broader offensive against the extremist group after it brutally murdered American journalist James Foley. Obama's secretary of defense, Chuck Hagel, and his top military brass have suggested ISIS needs to be confronted in Syria as part of any plan to contain the group.
Obama said the strategy would need to involve military, political, and diplomatic aspects. He said it would take political reform in Iraq and support from a broad variety of allies in the region to confront ISIS. Obama said he is sending Secretary of State John Kerry to the region to secure allies in the fight, and he has asked Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to prepare military options to confront the group.
But he said the problem cannot simply be solve through military efforts alone.
"Our military is the best in the world. We can rout ISIS on the ground and keep a lid on things temporarily, but then as soon as we leave the same problems come back," Obama said.

The escalation in Ukraine has sparked international outrage after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko accused Russia of sending troops across the Ukrainian border to fight with pro-Russian separatist rebels. Obama said he had spoken with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday, and he promised additional "costs" on Russia while hinting at the possibility of ramped-up sanctions. But there was one option he ruled out."We are not taking military action to solve the Ukrainian problem," Obama said.
Earlier on Thursday, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, lashed out at Russia in an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council. She accused Russia of "outright lies" and a campaign of manipulation.
The emergency meeting of the security council was called after President Poroshenko said Russian troops were fighting on the side of separatists in Ukraine and were advancing in the southeast region of the country. NATO subsequently echoed his allegations.

Ukraine's defense council said Russian troops are leading a separatist counteroffensive in the east, bringing in tanks and using artillery from inside Ukrainian territory.
A Russian-backed rebel leader said that at least 3,000 to 4,000 Russian troops were fighting inside Ukraine.

This post has been updated with Obama's comments.

Obama Tells ISIS We Don’t Have a Strategy to Deal With Them Yet

    August 28, 2014

    By Sara Noble

Is it wise to tell the enemy that you have no clue as to how to deal with them? Obama sent that exact message to ISIS today during a press conference.
Obama gave a press conference Thursday afternoon in which he admitted “we don’t have a strategy yet” to deal with ISIS.
ISIS has been on the march for four years and, for the last year, Obama has been warning the Iraqi government about ISIS.
That gave him plenty of time to work out a strategy. It’s not rocket science. We have to bomb them where they live and bomb them into oblivion.
One liberal website called vox.com, which is in the business of providing him cover, said that he probably meant to say ‘there is not good strategy available.’
Nice try vox! Ridiculous, but ‘A’ for effort.
    Listen to Obama’s statement:
Fox News got advance notice of a new report out of West Point that explained ISIS is a very well-organized operation that has been carefully built over the last four years.
It is using a mergers and acquisitions approach to build its army of fighters, raking in fighters from various al-Qaida and other terrorists groups.
Obama’s administration has known about it for four years and they also know that the ISIS threat will continue after Obama’s term ends.
The report said that the “shattering” of Iraq’s security forces in June is a “case-in-point, the result of years of patient preparatory operations.”
Obama had four years to come up with a strategy but he was too busy with Obamacare, golf, fundraising, and blaming his opponents.
On Blaze TV, Dana Loesch interviewed Princeton University professor Robert George.
He warned Wednesday that IS(IS) will carry out “mass slaughter in the United States” if it is not soon “destroyed as a fighting force.”
“They have every intention of getting [to the United States], and these are people who achieve what they set out to achieve,” George said on The Glenn Beck Program with guest host Dana Loesch. “Unless somebody stops them, they make good on their threats. They have threatened to carry out activity in the United States — killing people, mass slaughter in the United States.”
“Believe me, I plead with you, I want your listeners to believe me — these people will do it if they can,” George continued. “And they will be able to do it unless we stop them.”
People who wonder mindlessly if ISIS is here or not should stop wondering. If they’re not, they can get here very quickly by plane or ship. They’re not coming from Mars. They can get here.
If these people – terrorists – and I include Iran – get a nuclear weapon, they will most definitely use it against us.
People think ISIS is an anomaly and bears little resemblance to the rest of the terrorists when in fact they only differ in a matter of degree. They really want to kill us and they can get into the United States, especially with our open borders. They have the money, the will, and the weapons.
They are also gaining quickly in strength and numbers because every terrorist wants to be part of the biggest and baddest terrorist on the block.
We are facing an enemy that wants to kill us and we have a president who has no clue by his own admission.
This latest comment by Mr. Obama beats out his announcing our departure date from Iraq and Afghanistan to the enemy and it almost beats out the absurd rules of engagement which get our military killed. Mr. Obama is constantly outdoing himself.
When your enemy comes at you with a loaded weapon, you don’t tell them you don’t know what to do but you will take it under review. Obama did exactly that today.

    1. If you arm ISIS you are ISIS

    2. If you train ISIS you are ISIS

    3. If you attack ISIS then you would be "Attacking Yourself"

6 Terrifying Experiences as Recounted by a 13-Year-Old Who Escaped an ISIS Training Camp

As ISIS continues to established its brutal caliphate across parts of Syria and Northern Iraq, it’s also doing something else: working to hammer home its twisted worldview into the minds of vulnerable and impressionable children there.

This 13-year-old boy (who calls himself Mohammed for security reasons) managed to flee to Turkey with his father, escaping ISIS’ clutches. But not before the terrorists were able to implant their poisonous ideology into Mohammed’s young mind.
When ISIS took control of Raqaa, Syria, they forced several kids like Mohammed to train in their camps. In an interview with CNN, the teenager recounted 6 terrifying experiences during his time at the camp.

    1. Being forced to watch beheadings.

    2. When a man didn’t fast for Ramadan, ISIS made an example out of him by crucifying him.

    3. Watching a woman get stoned to death for committing adultery.

    4. Witnessing corporal punishment for not adhering to Sharia. In this photo, a man is receiving 25 lashings for forgetting to attend Friday prayers.

    5. He was made to take an oath of allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

    6. Learning that waging war and using guns are for entertainment purposes.

Clearly, Mohammed’s testimony presents an even stronger case for why the world needs to stand up and stomp out the ISIS threat. Because if the hatred doesn’t stop with the children, where does it stop?
