Elementary School Lesson Plan: Obama Bears His Name Like a ‘Coat of Many Colors’

An elementary school lesson plan is raising eyebrows as it lauds Obama as a type of messianic figure that rises from Barry to Barack in his quest to bring hope to the people, bearing his new name like a ‘coat of many colors.’
EAG News first discovered the lesson plan, which is based upon the book Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope, written by Nikki Grimes.
“Before dawn each morning, Barry rose—his mother’s voice driving him from dream land,” the book states. “‘Time for learning English grammar and the Golden Rule. Be honest, be kind, be fair,’ she taught him.”
It then makes a reference to the story of Joseph in the Bible, who was given a special coat by his father because he was highly favored and loved. In Grimes’ story, however, Obama changes his name from Barry to Barack.

“One morning, he slipped on the name he’d been born with. The name of his father, Barack. For the first time in his life, he wore it proudly—like a coat of many colors,” the book reads.
It also praises Obama for his work to “make life better for everyone.”
“He worked as hard as a farmer, planting the words ‘Yes, we can!’ like seeds in spring,” the book states.

The Barack Obama lesson plan, based on the book, is available for download for $3.60 and is described as “us[ing] colorful words and vivid descriptions to provide the reader with the inspiring story of Barack’s life.” It is common-core aligned and comes with suggested activities to further the lesson.
“Have students bring in magazines and photos of President Obama,” the plan explains. “Have students create a collage about Barack Obama based on the information from the text. The collage should represent pictures and words about Barack Obama.”
A comprehension quiz is also included to ensure that students understand the material presented.
Numerous reports have arisen over the past several years regarding the indoctrination of children with pro-Obama sentiments. In 2009, a YouTube video that featured a group of children singing the praises of Obama made national headlines and drew much criticism.
“He said red, yellow, black or white, all are equal in his sight,” the children chanted. “Mmm, mmm, mmm! Barack Hussein Obama!”
A video entitled Prayer for President Barack Obama also caused controversy earlier this year as the young boy featured in the video appeared to be praying to Obama and not for him.
“Barack Obama, thank you for doing everything and all the kind stuff,” he began, head bowed, eyes tightly closed. “Thank you for all the stuff that you helped us with. Thank you for taking the courage and responsibility for everything you have done for us.”
“God has given you a special power,” he continued, “And you are going to handle it just fine.”
“You are good, Barack Obama. You are great,” he said. “And when you get older, you will be able to do great things.”
However, not only has Obama been promoted to children, but a number of products on the market have seemingly hailed the president as a type of messiah. During the Democratic National Convention last September, one poster that was sold displayed the head of Obama, which faded into a graphic of an open Bible with the word “Barak” highlighted. Above Obama was the headline “Prophesy Fulfilled.”
T-shirts were also sold by vendors that cite Psalm 110:1, which says, “The Lord said unto my Lord, ‘Sit Thou at My right hand until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool.’” Additionally, Obama calendars were up for sale, which used Scripture for each month of the year to point to Obama.
Prior to the 2012 election season, Florida A&M professor Barbara A. Thompson also penned a book entitled The Gospel According to Apostle Barack in which she claimed that she was given a series of dreams by God where she was able to realize Obama’s purpose as the leader of the free world.
“I learned that Jesus walked the earth to create a more civilized society; Martin (Luther King) walked the earth to create a more justified society, but, Apostle Barack, the name he was called in my dreams, would walk the earth to create a more equalized society for the middle class and working poor,” Thompson wrote. “Apostle Barack, the next young leader with a new cause, had been taken to the mountaintop and allowed to see over the other side. He had the answers to unlock the kingdom of ‘heaven here on earth’ for his followers.”
