Resources for Children's Health Insurance

New Law Ensures Affordable Coverage for Kids, Regardless of Pre-Existing Conditions; Open Enrollment Period Ends March 1

There are 57,468 eligible but uninsured children in San Diego County. I strongly supported the legislation that brought about this expanded access to children's health coverage. I have also introduced legislation (Assembly Bill 714) that helps uninsured and under-insured Californians pre-enroll in health insurance programs created under healthcare reform. AB 714 will allow working and middle class families to take full advantage of expanded health care programs when they go into effect January 1, 2014.

For important educational resources on how to obtain health coverage for children during and after the open enrollment period, parents are encouraged to check the web site of the California Department of Insurance (CDI), where they can find fact sheets on how to insure their children.

For more information call 1-877-KIDS NOW or visit www.100percentcampaign.org/needinsurance.

If your children are uninsured, there are new options to get them covered, but it's important to act now! Visit finder.healthcare.gov to search for coverage options.

Parents are also encouraged to call CDI's consumer hotline at 1-800-927-HELP or the state health insurance hotline at 1-888-466-2219 with any questions or concerns.
