The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that relatives of a Chula Vista teenager killed in an apparent drunken driving crash are considering taking legal action to stop the boy's foster parents from donating his organs.

Otay Ranch High School senior Jason Spickerman, 16, was declared brain dead Saturday afternoon at Scripps Mercy Hospital after being injured in a crash late Friday night, Chula Vista police said. A second brother riding in the same vehicle was also killed.

Spickerman was a passenger in a car hit by a pickup truck driven by a man who was apparently drunk, police said.

Christian Balboa, 28, who identified himself as the eldest of Spickerman's four brothers, said he and other relatives have pleaded with the victim's foster parents not to donate his organs, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

The foster parents initially said they would respect the family's wishes but changed their mind hours later, Balboa told the newspaper.

Spickerman's foster parents could not be reached for comment, according to the Union-Tribune.

Balboa, who refused to comment on why his brother was in foster care, said he may seek a court order today to stop the donation, the newspaper reported.

Spickerman's 18-year-old brother, Daniel Spickerman, died at Rady Children's Hospital about three hours after the crash, which occurred at Main Street and Brandywine Avenue in Chula Vista.

The Spickerman brother who was driving the car was treated at a hospital and released, according to police.

The pickup driver, 31-year-old Enrique Coronado, ran from the scene but was caught a short distance away, police said.

Coronado was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, felony hit-and-run and being an unlicensed driver -- and a murder count could be added following an investigation, according to police.

Brothers Killed By Suspected DUI Driver

CHULA VISTA -- Two teenaged brothers were killed and another person injured when a suspected drunken driver crashed a pickup truck into their car at a Chula Vista intersection.

The collision occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Friday when a GMC pickup truck traveling west on Main Street collided with a Mitsubishi Galant at Brandywine Avenue, according to a statement released by the Chula Vista Police Department.

Investigators from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office identified the brothers as Jason Spickerman, 16, and Daniel Spickerman, 18, both of Chula Vista.

The driver of the pickup initially fled the scene, but was caught a short distance away, according to the statement.

Enrique Coronado, 31, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run and driving without a license, according to the statement. Homicide charges are pending.

The Spickerman brothers, who were in the Mitsubishi, were taken to local hospitals, where they were later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was treated and released, according to the CVPD.

Organs Donated Against Wishes Of Family

Otay Ranch Senior's Organs Donated By Foster Parents

SAN DIEGO -- The organs of teenager killed in an apparent drunken driving crash have been donated by his foster parents against the wishes of his biological family, it was reported Tuesday.

Otay Ranch High School senior Jason Spickerman, 16, was declared brain dead Saturday afternoon at Scripps Mercy Hospital after being injured in a crash late Friday night, Chula Vista police said. A second brother riding in the same vehicle was also killed and a third brother, who was driving, suffered slight injuries.

Spickerman and his brothers were in a car hit by a pickup truck driven by a man who was apparently drunk, police said.

Christian Balboa, 28, the eldest of Spickerman's four brothers, told The San Diego Union-Tribune that he and other relatives were considering legal action to bar the organ donation. But the organs were removed from Spickerman's body before the family could obtain a court order, the newspaper reported.

Jason Murguia, a spokesman for Spickerman's foster parents, told the Union-Tribune that the teen's organs were donated to six people, including an infant.

"I know this is what Jason would have wanted. Six lives were saved," Murguia told the newspaper.

Spickerman's aunt, Virginia Voss, told the Union-Tribune that the family objected because they thought the teen might recover one day.

Balboa refused to comment on why his brother was in foster care.

The pickup driver, 31-year-old Enrique Coronado, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, felony hit-and-run and being an unlicensed driver -- and a murder count could be added following an investigation, according to police.

That Coronado is an illegal alien is a reasonable suspicion.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

    The Honorable Gilbert Cedillo

A lifelong resident of Los Angeles, Gilbert Cedillo was elected as the State Senator from California’s 22nd District, in November 2002 and is proud to represent the diverse cities of Los Angeles, Alhambra, Maywood, San Marino, South Pasadena, and Vernon. Prior to his election in the Senate, Gilbert Cedillo served his constituents as the Assemblyman of California’s 46th District (1998-2002). His legislative record demonstrates his strong commitment to tackling tough issues and making real improvements in the day-to-day lives of the people he represents.

Senator Cedillo is committed to championing justice and equality for all people that live in California and has become a statewide leader for protecting the rights of working men and women; increasing and expanding access to health care; assimilating immigrants into California's social and economic fabric; devising regional solutions to combat homelessness and providing new economic development opportunities throughout the state and in his downtown Los Angeles District.

Senator Cedillo is steadfast in his pursuit of a progressive policy agenda that includes significant homeland security, civil rights and transportation legislation. Senator Cedillo recently reintroduced a homeland security and highway safety measure that would enable the State of California to comply with federal law by standardizing driver's licenses and processes used to issue them. Senator Cedillo’s proposal would also create a separate driving-only license, distinctive in color or design, for undocumented workers who are ineligible to legalize their status.

Prior to being elected to the California Legislature, Senator Cedillo was the general manager of the county’s employees’ union and in that capacity is best known for championing worker’s rights at a time of massive threatened layoffs, prohibiting the dismantling of the Los Angeles County public health system; protecting libraries and youth programs; and saving more than 25,000 local jobs. He also played a critical role in securing federal assistance to ensure that the Los Angeles County Health Care system remained financially afloat.

Senator Cedillo is a member of the Senate standing committees on Judiciary, Public Safety, Rules, Transportation and Housing. Senator Cedillo grew up in Boyle Heights, attended local schools, and graduated from UCLA in 1977.
