Farmer, consumer outcry helping to stop passage of draconian ‘food safety’ bill

Advocates of Senate Bill 510 (S.510) — also known as the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act — are lamenting the delayed passage of the sweeping legislation that many say threatens American food freedom. According to reports, opposition from the public, local farmers and some members of Congress could delay a vote on the bill until November — and may even kill it completely.

According to a recent New York Times article in obvious favor of the legislation, the Senate calendar is filled with a multitude of other bills that need to be voted on before members leave for the campaign trail in October. But since not all members are in favor of the legislation, advocates are straining to find ways to get it passed.

Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) opposed the bill because he believes the increased FDA authority over food granted by the bill would not necessarily improve food safety. And Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) says the bill gives the federal government too much power over small farms and facilities, and that local authorities are better suited to enforce existing food safety laws.

Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) recently criticized Coburn for opposing the bill, accusing him of playing “politicsâ€

I wrote to both my senators to protest the passage of this bill. I received a reply from senator Bill Nelson . He said this bill would not effect small farms/farming regulations. Say What ???

Obviously he has not read the bill but stated he would vote to pass it !!!!.

2012 can't get here quick enough to vote him out of office !!!

We do not need more regulations. We need the government, state and Federal, to enforce the laws on the books. Tell your Senators to force the FDA to do its job. Tell the same to your state government. Given the number of violations by the same Ag group that were revealed during the recent contaminated egg situation those operators should have been either cleaned up or put out of business long ago.

In general we should take the position that either government agencies do their jobs, and do them effectively, or we get rid of them. That includes the FDA, FAA, federal finance regulators, Dept of Commerce, Dept of Education, and Dept of Homeland Security just to name a few. Can anyone make a case for keeping any of these agencies given their record in recent years? Contaminated goods from China? Less than 1 per cent of imported food inspected, including shrimp and other sea food from Asia? Commercial air planes allowed to flown out of the US for maintenance with no oversight on the quality of maintenance, expertise of the mechanics or even any assurance the maintenance was performed at all? Cost per student in education rising every year with a corresponding decline in student performance and increasing high school drop outs? Failure to enforce immigration laws by the Feds while suing states like Arizona who try to protect their citizens?

    Q. What Do You Call 524,325 Emails (So Far) From Health Freedom Advocates to Congress and Decision Makers On This Issue?

    Answer: A Good Start!

Industrializing US Food Supply Time Line

June 8, 2009: Rep. John Dingle (D MI) Introduces HR 2749, Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009, setting up a legislative and criminal system to industrialized the entire US food chain, criminalizing information about health benefits of food and minor infractions in order to drive all small, independent food producers out of the food industry. HR 2749 brings Codex into rapid and full implementation

July 30, 2009: HR 2749, Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009, passes the House by a 280 to 150 majority

March 3, 2009: Sen. Richard Durbin (D IL) introduces S. 510, FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, which, like HR 2749 will end the production of clean, unadulterated food in the United States, industrialize and further degrade all US food production but which lacks the draconian penalties of HR 2749

December 18, 2009: S. 510 Placed on Senate Legislative Calendar

September 13, 2010: S. Patrick J. Leahy (D VT) Introduces S.3767, Food Safety Accountability Act of 2010, which reintroduces the vicious penalties for "misbranding and adulteration) HR 2749 lost when it became S. 510

    September 13, 2010: S. 3767 referred to Judiciary Committee

September 23, 2010: S. 3767 Date of Scheduled Consideration [e.g, bill could be voted into law that day or S. 510 could be introduced as an amendment and put forward in that manner. Stop it before gets to the Senate floor to be rammed through into law.

09.13.10 - Text and Threat of S.3767: Criminalizing the Food Trade
    http://vitaminlawyerhealthfreedom.blogs ... 67-to.html

    S. 3767 gives the FDA the power it has steadfastly sought: anyone saying anything about what health benefits you might expect from a nutrient, supplement or food will feel the wrath of the FDA and may well - I kid you not - spend 10 years in jail contemplating that wrath. You see, "misbranding", a charge with a 10 year jail sentence under S. 3767, means, in the mad, mad world of FDA-ism, having any claim, yours or someone else's, that says a supplement or food might be good for you.

    S. 510 is already bad enough since it industrializes the US food chain AND gives Homeland Security the right to make secret regulations, the hallmark of a Police State, AND gives the FDA more power to abuse AND sets up the complete and total HARMonization of the US with Code. What more could a Food Fascist want? Well, they could want S. 3767! And we are not going to let them have this deadly package, are we?

No? Then take action now and mobilize your contacts. NOW!
