FULLERTON - Two Hispanic gang members pleaded not guilty Thursday to hate crime and attempted robbery charges in connection with the beating of a black man who was trying to buy cigarettes at a Fullerton liquor store.

One of the defendants threatened to kill the police officers who arrested him.

Nathan Robert Mancillas, 23, and Juan Jose Carbajal Jr., 22, both of Fullerton, each are charged with one felony count of attempted robbery, one felony count of street terrorism, one felony count of a hate crimes related battery and a sentencing enhancement for committing a crime for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

Carbajal was also charged with one felony count of threatening a police officer.

Mancillas has a prior 2003 strike for a robbery conviction in Los Angeles County. If convicted, Mancillas faces up to 21 years behind bars. Carbajal faces up to 10 years and four months in state prison.

According to prosecutors, a 46-year-old black man was walking into Arbor Market and Liquor to buy cigarettes about 6:15 Tuesday when Mancillas and Carbajal demanded his watch and ring. The man refused and walked into the store.

Mancillas and Carbajal followed him into the store, prosecutors say, and Mancillas punched the man in the mouth while yelling they "didn't like n------," and "f--- Obama and f--- n-------." Carbajal allegedly jumped in the fight, beating the man with his fists while he and Mancillas yelled racial slurs, prosecutors say.

The victim, according to prosecutors, did not fight back and was left with a swollen and bruised upper body.

Mancillas is also accused by prosecutors of lifting a leg of his shorts to display his tattoo as he shouted gang sayings.

Police caught Mancillas and Carbajal nearby. While being detained, prosecutors said, Carbajal told arresting officers which gang he belonged to and that he loved to kill police officers and planned to carry out his threat.

Mancillas and Carbajal are being held on $200,000 bail in the Orange County jail.

The flag flies at half-mast out of grief for the death of my beautiful, formerly-free America. May God have mercy on your souls.

It will get worse, much worse.

Obama and his minions seem to forget that political correctedness is NOT part of Latin America's mindset. Racism is freely and often practiced in LA countries.

FULLERTON – The first punch landed square on the side of Benjamin Upshaw's chin. He tasted blood from a split lip.

He had seen the two men coming and realized too late that they were trouble. He says they demanded his money and his watch, spat racial slurs at him and shouted, “(Expletive) Obama.â€
