In the state of New York, hundreds gathered near Sarasota Springs in a fiery act of civil disobedience aimed at gun control lawmakers.
According to the Post Star, “nearly a thousand gun registration forms were turned into ashes Sunday.” Under NY’s SAFE Act, those who possess what the State of New York considers to be military-style “assault weapons” have to register by April 15th.
“Once the Second (Amendment) falls, the rest will go with it. It’s an unconstitutional law, done in the middle of the night with no input from the public,” E.J. Stokes told the Post Star.
The NY2A Grassroots Coalition organized the protest. Jake Palmateer, a NY2A co-founder, said that, “We are opposed to registration because the evidence is clear that registration leads to confiscation.”
The Post Star cited Palmateer as estimating that fewer than 3,000 New York “assault weapons” have been registered and he says State Police claim that there are several hundred thousand more “assault weapons.” There may be high as 1.2 million, Palmateer added.
According the Post Star: “about 230 people attended a forum to discuss the issue before the burning.” Similar forums held across the state have been well attended, Palmateer told the news publication, adding that gun groups will be holding a big rally April 1st at the state Capitol.
“We are not extremists,” Kevin Sisson said while at the event. “We are simply free men who love our country.”

NY Is Demanding They Register Their Guns – Guess What They Did With the Registration Forms?

BY STEVE STRAUB ON MARCH 17, 2014 · LEAVE A COMMENT · IN SECOND AMENDMENT

It’s AWESOME to see law abiding citizens stand up to illegal laws!
    Via the Post-Star:
Nearly a thousand gun registration forms were turned into ashes Sunday.
The forms are used for people to register with New York State Police firearms that meet the state’s definition of military-style assault weapons. The deadline is April 15. Gun rights advocates gathered at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge 161 to burn the papers in a symbolic protest.
E.J. Stokes, leader of the Warren County chapter of New York Revolution, said he was participating because he believes in the U.S. Constitution.
“Once the Second (Amendment) falls, the rest will go with it. It’s an unconstitutional law, done in the middle of the night with no input from the public,” he said.
The event was organized by the NY2A Grassroots Coalition. NY2A co-founder Jake Palmateer said the goal is for people not to register their assault weapon as an act of civil disobedience.
“We are opposed to registration because the evidence is clear that registration leads to confiscation,” he said.
He and others hope that so few people will fill out the forms, that the registry portion of the SAFE Act “collapses under its own weight.”
He estimates that less than 3,000 New York assault weapons have been registered and he says Sate Police estimated that there are several hundred thousand. The gun industry believes the number may be high as 1.2 million, according to Palmateer.

    THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS

Posted by Ian Huyett on 17 Mar 2014 / 3 Comments

“It’s an unconstitutional law, done in the middle of the night,” say activists.

Upstate New York may be tiring of being under the legislative yoke of the Big Apple. On Sunday, Saratoga Springs gun owners tossed nearly a thousand gun registration forms into barbeque grills in an act of civil disobedience.
“We are opposed to registration because the evidence is clear that registration leads to confiscation,” NY2A Grassroots Coalition co-founder Jake Palmateer told poststar.com.
New York’s SAFE Act, hastily enacted in the wake of the Newton massacre last year, requires the registration of all “assault weapons” by April 15th. The sweeping law introduces a litany of bureaucratic hurdles to gun ownership and outright bans a variety of activities and equipment. It allows police to seize firearms without a warrantif they feel they have probable cause to do so.
Upstate New Yorkers have been campaigning for years to split their state into two regional governments.
