Finding The "Perfect" Candidate
I agree with much of what you said. But if you feel the best way to influence the process is to not vote or vote for the Constitution Party, go ahead. We have two Parties in this country that can make policy - I'm working to change my Party's position on this issue. And I have brought it up to Wes Clark personally. By the way if we keep getting dragged into unecessary wars and get most of the world looking at us as an enemy you may find that the immigration issue actually does become secondary to some other things. I didn't say that would happen or that I want it to happen, I just said if. With George Bush almost gone we can hopefully avoid that scenario.

Third parties and/or independent candidates have been instrumental in shaping the debate on numerous issues. That can be a victory in itself in the vent that it's an issue that the public feels strongly about but that neither of the entrenched parties wishes to address. Furthermore, down here in Texas we have numerous independents and third party members in local and state offices. Even if they eventually must join one or another of the "lesser of two evils" parties, they at least have the benefit of establishing themselves and their priorities independent of the big party machines.
I will also add this. Breaking the stranglehold of Crappy Party 1a and Crappy Party 1b will NEVER be possible so long as people remain too lazy or indifferent to make the effort. I submit that the sort of defeatism you espouse in this regard is a huge problem in and of itself.

The perfect candidate for me would be from the Constitution Party. 90% of the 'issues' that get trotted out EVERY election shouldn't even BE issues because they're not Constitutional.
The Federal government HAS NO BUSINESS running schools, for example.
They have no business collecting an illegal income tax.
A quick look at their platform would be educational for LOTS of folks.
