BREAKING NEWS – Authorities said late Friday that five people have been killed in two shootings in northeast Georgia. Investigators believe the shootings are related.

Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins said three people were shot at one location in Appling, two of whom died at the scene; a third died at the hospital.

He said two other people were shot and killed at another location about a mile away.

Collins said they are working to confirm their identities and all five bodies would be going to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office identified 50-year-old Wayne Anthony Hawes as a suspect in the shootings. Investigators said they don’t know whether the man is in a car or if he’s on foot.

Investigators believe the incidents are related, but have yet to release a motive for the shootings.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Andy Shedd told The Augusta Chronicle that police believe the shooting stems from a domestic dispute.
