Former ACORN voter registrar sentenced for fraud
Former ACORN voter registrar sentenced for fraud

MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee woman has been sentenced to three years on probation for trying to register some people more than once as part of an ACORN voter registration drive.
Latoya Lewis, 19, pleaded guilty Monday to election fraud. Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Richard Sankovitz stayed a one-year jail sentence. But as conditions of her probation, Lewis must serve 30 days in jail, with work release privileges, and not work on any voter registration drives.
Lewis had said she was trying to meet her quota as a paid registrar.
She was the fourth former Milwaukee registrar to face charges from the 2008 election and the only one employed by ACORN, a liberal activist group. Two others pleaded guilty; one remains at large. Prosecutors say there's no evidence of a conspiracy.
