Former Obama Supporting Coal Miners Turn on His EPA that is forcing them out of Jobs

The United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) marched on Thursday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in protest against the energy policies being enacted by the Environmental Protection Agency under the direction of one Barack Hussein Obama – the senator from Illinois they originally supported for president in 2008. UMWA president Cecil Roberts led 5,000 miners, their families and supporters toward the federal building where the EPA was holding hearings for new rules that could force the closing of more coal-fired power plants and coal mines. Roberts, along with other UMWA members, were arrested but eventually released by police.

The UMWA originally supported North Carolina Democratic Senator John Edwards, but after he dropped out, the UMWA put its full weight behind the "present" voting Illinois Senator. Obama had lost primaries in Kentucky and West Virginia, coal heavy states, to Democrat Hillary Clinton. While UMWA was busy throwing out heavy support for Obama, several statements made during the 2008 campaign by Obama indicated his plans for the coal industry.
In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Obama stated, "So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can – it's just that it will bankrupt them because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."
If that wasn't clear enough, Obama added, "Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket, regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad, because I'm capping greenhouse gases. Coal power plants, natural gas, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money onto customers."
Still, the UMWA supported Obama with president Cecil Roberts issuing this statement in 2008 on behalf of the UMWA.
"Senator Obama shares the values of UMWA workers and their families. He understands and will fight for the needs our members have today and the hopes our members have for a secure future for themselves and their families. Senator Obama will fight to preserve American jobs, not ship them overseas in greater and greater numbers. Senator Obama will make sure that the nation's mine safety and health enforcement agency actually enforces the law, instead of coddling mine operators who repeatedly and willfully violate the law."

The UMWA was unanimous in their endorsement of then Senator Obama even after his plans to decimate the coal industry, institute cap-and-trade, and send consumer electrical prices skyrocketing was revealed in the interview with the SF Chronicle.
The war on coal began with the election of Obama and by 2012, the coal industry was blaming Obama and the EPA for their troubles when coal-fired plants began to shut down and miners were laid off. However, the UMWA did not support Republican candidate Mitt Romney during the 2012 election because of Romney's past record in stating that coal kills people.
UMWA District 31 vice president, Mike Caputo in 2008 said of candidate Mitt Romney:
"Governor Romney's record on coal isn't much better. Mitt Romney has never been a friend of our industry. Now he's out preaching he's all for coal, but his history sure doesn't show that."

Cecil Roberts has to be incredibly stupid, terribly uninformed when it comes to a presidential candidate's stance on his industry, and an influential union president to persuade over 105,000 miners, along with their families and friends to vote for a man, who once elected, would decimate their very livelihood. Roberts turned on the sales pitch to his union members while Obama was mapping out his plan to implode the coal industry. What's just as bad is many of the union members followed Roberts endorsement instead of thinking for themselves.
Caputo isn't much better. Obama was readying the EPA to go into high gear after the 2012 elections should he be re-elected and still, the UMWA would not support Mitt Romney because of a "past record on coal." Evidently the destruction of their industry by the current man in the Oval Office was not enough incentive to maybe endorse a candidate that possibly had a change of heart on the coal industry. It's not surprising as this union was supporting Obama as he was outlining his plan to eradicate much of the coal industry. More than likely, the union's decision not to back Romney had little to do with Romney's past remark about coal and more to do with him being a Republican.
The bed the coal union made for itself and its members has now become uncomfortable, probably downright painful, so they march against the administration they supported – an administration who is tightening the vice on the industry they and their families depend on to survive.
While being arrested on Thursday, Cecil Roberts told reporters, "This was an expression by the leadership of the union and the solidarity for our members when our jobs are on the line … that's what it's all about."

Do union members not make the connection that this man leading the protest against the decimation of the coal industry is the same man who fully endorsed the 2008 candidate who openly stated indirectly he would wage war on coal?
Do union members not understand that because they followed their union president's endorsement they voted for their own troubles now?
Mike Caputo had a few words to say at the protest march, indicating that this rally was "the first shot of the battle." Unfortunately, Caputo failed to realize that first shot was fired when voting for Obama in 2008 because of resounding endorsement by the union president; the union shot itself in the foot.
Caputo talked rather brave stating, "We were willing to go to jail to show the government that this is a serious issue within our union and the jobs that it affects. We painted a vivid picture of who this rule is going to affect."
Yes, Mr. Caputo, going to jail was really smacking it to the government. Let's call this what it really was, shall we? This huffing and puffing by union leaders was nothing more than trying to remove responsibility away from themselves since they in essence sold out their own industry by endorsing a candidate bent on destroying the industry. They sought, once again, to fool their union members by protesting in order to deflect attention away from their "past record" of failed leadership in candidate endorsement.
In their narrow-mindedness, these leaders believe that EPA rules only affected them, the union members and industry jobs. What these "leaders" failed to realize was the EPA rules directly affect the industry, but indirectly affect everyone else through increased cost. They failed in their leadership to safeguard their industry by endorsing candidates who would support affordable energy fuels.
Obama stated he would institute a cap-and-trade system – well that's coming. It's been proposed by the EPA.
Obama stated coal-fired power plants would be more expensive to build and operate – that's here as well. Coal-fired power plants are required to install unreliable, unproven and experimental carbon capture technology to lower greenhouse gas emissions. Coal-fired power plants have been closed and more are slated to close based on EPA regulations. Fewer coal-fired power plants means less coal is needed meaning more layoffs in the mining industry.
Following Obama's lead, the Congress has entertained the idea of a carbon footprint tax on individuals where the air we breathe in then exhale will be taxed. If slimy Harry Reid has anything to do with it, like was done with Obamacare, Americans had better ready themselves for another tax based on the falsehood of "climate change/global warming." Based on the past actions of Congress, the carbon footprint tax won't stop at humans either if it gets passed. When that money that has been stolen from the pockets of Americans gets earmarked and spent, Congress will then come for more money as they tax the carbon footprint of your pets and livestock. It will go on and on until Americans are fleeced into paying for every living creature in the US that breathes, belches and farts.
Remember, taxes only apply to citizens. Who do you think will be paying for illegal aliens taking up space in America contributing to the problem?
Never fear though, these union leaders are willing to go to jail to show the government just who all these regulations affects. These same union leaders, who fully, exuberantly endorsed Obama while he declared war on coal and America, are willing to fire shots in this battle to preserve America's affordable energy resources, their jobs and their union – not necessarily in that order.
With friends like these union leaders, who needs enemies?
