Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley promised to warn his Chinese counterpart ahead of time in case the Trump administration prepared a military strike against China, according to an upcoming book by Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.
In two secret phone calls that took place Oct. 30, 2020, four days before the presidential election, and Jan. 8, two days after the Capitol riot, Milley allegedly assured Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People’s Liberation Army that the U.S. would not strike and he would warn the Chinese in case of an attack, according to excerpts of the book “Peril” reviewed by The Washington Post.
The Oct. 30 call was allegedly prompted by an intelligence review indicating Beijing suspected the U.S. was preparing a military strike. Woodward and Costa wrote this suspicion was the result of growing tensions over military exercises in the South China Sea and former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric toward China, The Washington Post reported.
“General Li, I want to assure you that the American government is stable and everything is going to be okay,” Milley allegedly told his Chinese counterpart. “We are not going to attack or conduct any kinetic operations against you.”

The book further alleges that Milley promised Li he would warn the Chinese in case the U.S. prepared a military strike, and emphasized the personal relationship the two officials had established through back channels.
“General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years. If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise,” the top U.S. general allegedly said.
In the Jan. 8 call, Milley allegedly tried to assuage Beijing’s concerns about potential instability following the Capitol riot. Woodward and Costa wrote that Li remained “rattled” even after Milley assured him of a peaceful transition of power, The Washington Post reported.
“Things may look unsteady, but that’s the nature of democracy,” Milley allegedly said. “We are 100 percent steady. Everything’s fine. But democracy can be sloppy sometimes.”
Milley did not inform Trump about the conversations he had with Li, the authors wrote. The book also alleges that Milley called Ret. Adm. Philip Davidson, then-commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, and urged him to postpone military exercises in the region.
“Peril” is Woodward’s third book covering the Trump administration and is set to be released Sept. 21.

The woke Gen. Mark Milley, who said he has read books on white rage, held secret meetings behind the back of President Donald Trump, a new book says.
Two days after the January 6 incident at the Capitol Gen. Milley took an extraordinary step. He took secret action to talk to military leaders and told them not to take military strike or nuclear orders from Trump, CNN reported.
Milley was “was certain that Trump had gone into a serious mental decline in the aftermath of the election, with Trump now all but manic, screaming at officials and constructing his own alternate reality about endless election conspiracies,” Bob Woodward and Washington Post reporter Robert Costa said in the book “Peril.”
“You never know what a president’s trigger point is,” Milley said to his senior staff, worried that Trump could “go rogue,” the book said.

Milley then called a meeting in secret on January 8 to examine the process for military action which included the launching of nuclear weapons
He told the military officials in charge of the National Military Command Center that they were not to take orders from anyone unless he was involved.

“No matter what you are told, you do the procedure. You do the process. And I’m part of that procedure,” the authors claim he said before going around the room and having each officer affirm that they understood the order.
“Got it?” Milley asked, according to the book.

“Yes, sir.”
‘Milley considered it an oath,’ the authors write.
“Peril” is based on more than 200 interviews with firsthand participants and witnesses, and it paints a chilling picture of Trump’s final days in office. The book, Woodward’s third on the Trump presidency, recounts behind-the-scenes moments of a commander in chief unhinged and explosive, yelling at senior advisers and aides as he desperately sought to cling to power.
It also includes exclusive reporting on the events leading up to January 6 and Trump’s reaction to the insurrection, as well as newly revealed details about Trump’s January 5 Oval Office showdown with his vice president, Mike Pence.

Woodward and Costa obtained documents, calendars, diaries, emails, meeting notes, transcripts and other records.
The book also examines Joe Biden’s decision to run for office again; the first six months of his presidency; why he pushed so hard to get out of Afghanistan; and how he really feels about Trump. CNN obtained a copy of “Peril” ahead of its release on September 21.
Milley conducted two clandestine phone calls with China’s top general and he received a phone call from House Speaker and California Rep. Nancy Pelosi of which Woodward and Costa received an exclusive transcript. In the phone call Milley told Pelosi that the nuclear weapons were safe.
“What I’m saying to you is that if they couldn’t even stop him from an assault on the Capitol, who even knows what else he may do? And is there anybody in charge at the White House who was doing anything but kissing his fat butt all over this?” she said. “You know he’s crazy. He’s been crazy for a long time.”
Milley responded by saying, “Madam Speaker, I agree with you on everything.”
After the phone call with the Speaker, he decided to take action and told his top chiefs to watch everything “all the time.”
“Milley was overseeing the mobilization of America’s national security state without the knowledge of the American people or the rest of the world,” the book said.
After Trump did not concede the 2020 election CIA Director Gina Haspel warned Milley, , “We are on the way to a right-wing coup. The whole thing is insanity. He is acting out like a six-year-old with a tantrum.”
“This is a highly dangerous situation. We are going to lash out for his ego?” she said to Milley, the book claimed.

According to a new book “Peril” written by Bob Woodward, Mark Milley, the Joint Chiefs chairman, told China in a secret phone call that he would give advance warning if the US was ever going to attack.
“In a pair of secret phone calls, Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, assured his Chinese counterpart, Gen. Li Zuocheng of the PLA, that the U.S. would not strike, according to the new book written by Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward and national political editor Robert Costa.

One call took place on Oct 30, 2020, four days before the election that unseated President Trump, and the other on Jan. 8, 2021, two days after the Capitol siege carried out by his supporters in a quest to cancel the vote.
The first call was prompted by Milley’s review of intelligence suggesting the Chinese believed the United States was preparing to attack.

On January 8, 2021, the same day Milley reportedly spoke to China in a secret phone call, CNN ran a story claiming Pelosi had gotten assurances from Milley there are safeguards in place in the event President Trump wants to launch a nuclear weapon.

“This morning, I spoke to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley to discuss available precautions for preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike,” Pelosi wrote in a letter. “The situation of this unhinged President could not be more dangerous, and we must do everything that we can to protect the American people from his unbalanced assault on our country and our democracy.”
After speaking with Milley Friday, Pelosi told her caucus that she has gotten assurances there are safeguards in place in the event Trump wants to launch a nuclear weapon, according to multiple sources on a caucus call.

“Speaker Pelosi initiated a call with the Chairman. He answered her questions regarding the process of nuclear command authority,” Colonel Dave Butler said in a statement.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley took steps to prevent then-President Donald Trump from misusing the country's nuclear arsenal during the last month of his presidency, according to a new book by the Washington Post's Bob Woodward and Robert Costa obtained by NBC News.

Their book, "Peril," said in the days before the 2020 election, there was Milley also acted to prevent a potential conflict with China. The book says that Milley received intelligence that Chinese officials believed the U.S. was getting ready to attack them. In order to defuse tensions, Milley called the head of China's military, Gen. Li Zuocheng, and told him the "American government is stable" and "we are not going to attack."
"If we're going to attack, I'm going to call you ahead of time. It's not going to be a surprise," Milley is quoted as saying.
"We're not going to have a fight," Milley told him, according to the book. Li replied, "Okay." "I take you at your word," Li said.

Trump laced into Milley in a statement, calling the general a "dumb---" and the details of the story "Fake News."

"For the record, I never even thought of attacking China — and China knows that. The people that fabricated the story are sick and demented, and the people who print it are just as bad," he said in the statement.
The book, set to be released on Sept. 21, also recounts a phone conversation Milley had with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after the Jan. 6 violence at the Capitol, which Pelosi blamed on an "unhinged" Trump. Pelosi said in January that she spoke to Milley about "preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike."
"I can guarantee you, you can take it to the bank, that there'll be, that the nuclear triggers are secure and we're not going to do - we're not going to allow anything crazy, illegal, immoral or unethical to happen," Milley told her, according to a transcript of the call obtained by the authors.
"The president alone can order the use of nuclear weapons. But he doesn't make the decision alone. One person can order it, several people have to launch it," he said later in the conversation.
After the call, Milley summoned senior officers from the National Military Command Center to go over the procedures for launching nuclear weapons, the book said. He told the officers that if they got a call, "you do the procedure. You do the process. And I'm part of that procedure," he said - making sure he was in the loop on any planned military actions, the book said.
Those scenarios didn't come to fruition.
The book also revealed a previously unreported call between then-Vice President Mike Pence and former VP Dan Quayle in late December. Pence was seeking advice about Trump's demand that he refused to recognize the election results during the electoral vote count on Jan. 6.
Quayle thought Trump's suggestion was "preposterous and dangerous," according to the book. He told Pence, "You have no flexibility on this. None. Zero. Forget it. Put it away."
Pence told him, "I've been trying to tell Trump," but "there are other guys there saying I have this power."
"You don't," Quayle told him.
Pence told his fellow native Indianan he did have some concerns about the vote in Arizona. Quayle responded, "Mike, I live in Arizona." "There's nothing out here," he said.

The good news is that the story is Fake News concocted by a weak and ineffective General together with two authors who I refused to give an interview to because they write fiction, not fact. Actions should be taken immediately against Milley
and better generals in our Military, of which we have many, should get involved so that another Afghanistan disaster never happens again. Remember, I was the one who took out 100% of the ISIS Caliphate. Milley said it couldn’t be done!
