A man injured in the blast was being treated at a nearby hospital, Yoga said. He said officers suspected the man was carrying the device or dropped it when it exploded.

In recent years, Indonesia has suffered a series of suicide bombings by al-Qaida-linked militants against Western targets, including two attacks in the capital and two on the resort island of Bali that together killed more than 240 people.

More than 300 Islamic militants have been arrested, but authorities have repeatedly warned that terrorists were planning more strikes.

President Bush is planning to visit Indonesia on Nov. 20.
