GREAT NECK, N.Y. (AP / The Huffington Post) -- A Nassau County judge has ordered a housekeeper held without bail on charges that she kidnapped her former employers' 5-month-old daughter.

Newsday reports that 55-year-old Gloria Suarez was being jailed Thursday on kidnapping, child endangerment and other charges.

Suarez worked as a maid for Rabbi Yitzchok Hayempour until she was fired on Monday, The New York Post reports.

Police say Suarez took the child on Wednesday because the family of 13 has "so many children that they just don't have time for her," according to a statement the housekeeper gave to police that was included in court records.

"I know that they say the baby is theirs, but I know that the baby should belong to me," Suarez told investigators, according to The Post.

Suarez reportedly disguised the child in blue boy's clothing before fleeing the home on foot. She was arrested at the Roslyn Railroad Station in Roslyn Heights.

Authorities say she planned to take the baby out of the county -- perhaps as far away as her native Uruguay.

Yolanda Guerra, Suarez's court-appointed attorney, says the housekeeper denies the allegations.
