Gold ends lower for fourth session

Copper’s the weakest in a broad-based pullback for metals futures

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Gold futures extended their losing streak to a fourth session, off 2.1% on Thursday as the metal failed to attract attention from safe haven-minded investors and tracked equities and other commodities lower.

Gold for December delivery /quotes/zigman/661658 GC1Z -1.61% declined $34.10, or 2.1%, to end at $1,612.90 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract touched a low of $1,606.30 an ounce.

The settlement also marked gold’s lowest since late September, and heralded a broad-based selloff for precious and base metals. Copper led declines, off 6.2%.
