GOP Congresswoman demands Trump apologize for comments about Haiti

Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah) called for President Trump to apologize for the controversial comments he reportedly made about African countries and Haiti being “sh*thole countries.”

Here’s what she said:



“The President'[s] comments are unkind, divisive, elites and fly in the face of our nation’s values,” her statement read. “This behavior is unacceptable from the leader of our nation.”

“My parents came from one of those countries bur proudly took an oath of allegiance to the United States and took on the responsibilities of everything that being a citizen comes with,” she continued. “They never took a thing from our federal government. They worked hard, paid taxes, and rose from nothing to take care of and provide opportunities for their children.”

“They taught their children to do the same,” she added. “That’s the American Dream.”

“The President must apologize to both the American people and the nations he so wantonly maligned,” she continued.
What did President Trump say?

According to reporting from the Washington Post Thursday, President Trump referred to African nations and Haiti as “sh*thole countries.”

The White House released a statement that neither confirmed nor denied that the president made the comments as they were reported.
