Got to love the government. With yet another terror alert meant to scare the sheeple, we must be secured by our government. How many more years are the US taxpayers going to be duped into suspending the Constitution and the Bill of Rights so Fatherland Security can march over liberty?

So sad these products are distributed to the public letting the terrorists see what we are thinking and allowing them to modify their violent plans or maybe even worse giving wannabe bad guys ideas.

What I believe being overlook here is that the real threat doesn't lie in passenger safety, but safety of communities surrounding railroads. Thousands of cars containing hazardous materials such as chlorine gas, nuclear waste, ethanol, etc. cross the country every night. Just today there was another train derailment that caused the evacuation of Mecca, CA due to the hydrochloric gas that was released.

With rails being so accessible to the public, these hazardous material carrying cars should be the real threat.

Never mind passenger rail... given the decades long poor record of safety and hazmat care and attention, our nation's freight traffic would be even more frightening to consider as a target. Imagine a tanker of chlorine or ammonia - common on any rails today - being blown up. It could kill tens of thousands in the surrounding communities in a matter of an hour. And guess what? A foreign gov't and company manages the majority of the nation's freight now - Canadian National. And, their safety record is dismal even without terror threats.

I heard on the news last night that more people are taking trains now that gas prices are between $3 and $4, and continuing to rise. I wonder if it is coincidental that the government, led by "Big Oil's Best Friend" (That's Bush if you're not paying attention), all of a sudden says "TRAINS AREN'T SAFE!". A cynical person would believe they were trying to get people back in their SUVs to guzzle that oil.....=)

The sole purpose of this BULL-etin is to scare votes away from Barack Obama so the ruling party can get McCain or Hilary into office easier.

We have lives to live. Get on the trains and live them. How much more "vigilant" are we supposed to be?

If it says classified,it seems the media reads it as "must release." I agree with the statement that if the terrorists weren't looking at our rail system before, they are now. Yes, it's nice to be informed, but there has to be some boundaries set.

We cannot guard against every threat - perhaps the best we can do is guard against the obvious and plan for that which is possible. If we are vigilant and prudent, we will only assume the same risks as faced by our Europeon allies for decades. No sense dwelling on them.

How did a FOUO document make it in a reporter's story and posted on the internet. The front page of the threat assessment document clearly states that the report shall not be released to the media. Way to go NBC. I feel safer already!
