Report: Grenades found in bag at Newark airport

By Melanie Eversley, USA TODAY Updated 11m ago

Explosives experts at Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey found five grenades in a passenger's bag on Saturday, CBS New York is reporting based on word from the Transportation Security Agency.

The devices were found to be "inert" and the passenger, who was headed to Belgium, surrendered them to officials, the news organization reports. The incident did not affect airport operations, according to CBS New York.

The TSA also reports - according to CBS New York - that it discovered a credit card knife in the wallet of a passenger who was headed to Los Angeles, also on Saturday. The knife was similar to one that agents discovered on a passenger on Nov. 22, the agency tells the station.

The incidents come in the wake of accusations from two elderly women who say they were violated during screenings by TSA personnel at JFK International Airport in New York late last month.
