A bubble is what happens when individuals who would generally shy away from an asset or investment become so crazed by it, that they throw all rational and logical thought aside in the hopes of attaining possession of said asset at nearly any price, no matter how over inflated its value has become. In almost all cases the asset is priced well above its intrinsic, or real fundamental value.
Our nine year old son, for example, would never wear pink – ever. He wouldn’t be caught dead in it, for obvious reasons. Nor would he have ever considered wearing a bracelet – that’s something his sisters are generally into.
Last year however, elementary students the country over became crazed over something called silly bands. They’re little rubber bracelets available in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors – even pink. As the craze took off, silly bands became a hot commodity item. Impulse counters at local stores were emptied of any and all silly bands. Silly band value at school was going parabolic, with some shapes in specific colors being traded on the free market at a ratio of 10 to 20 inferior bands to one of the more “rareâ€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Silly Bandz Banned From Schools: Silly Kids Or Silly Schools?

Do you know what a Silly Bandz bracelet is?
It's a craze in elementary and middle schools that's actually even crossed over into high school and colleges, where kids are buying, selling, trading and hunting for the shapely, inexpensive novelty items- which are simply rubber bracelets shaped like animals, letters of the alphabet, etc. that retain their shape after stretching.

Now schools are banning them, just like they did with Pokemon cards in years past. Another type of bracelet- colored rubber bracelets (minus the animal shapes) was banned in years past because the colors allegedly signified 'how far you would go' with someone. Yellow was for hugging and purple meant kissing, while red meant a lap dance, blue meant oral sex and black? Black was reserved to signify whether or not you were willing to have sex.
So as a parent, I can see how THOSE bracelets got banned- because of their direct meaning related to sexual activity. but these new Silly Bandz bracelets seem to be pretty harmless- their novelty is basically found in the fact that they retain their shape after worn. They're cheap, sound like they would be fun to collect, and seem innocent to me. Schools, however, beg to differ as educational institutions have been banning them all around the nation.
Why?
Because they are 'a distraction.'
Really? A distraction? Does the necessity to ban a BRACELET say more about the distractedness of our youth or more about the quality of our educational system? I can completely see taking bracelets away as a disciplinary measure if students are misbehaving, but banning them to me seems overly extreme.
After all, isn't Freedom of Expression part of the first amendment? Do schools really want Constitutional Lawsuit in the Supreme Court over a 25 cent bracelet? As a mother of four kids in four different schools, I certainly see schools making rules that are related to students' safety, well being, and education.
But not their innocent, animal shaped rubber bracelets.
