Ostriches are smart


There's a lot of talk in the Speak Out about ostriches. Do ostriches bury their heads in the sand? Yes, they do, but what's the reason why lions and tigers and bears, oh my do not attack the ostrich when its head is buried in the sand? Do you know? The reason is, the ostrich has giant legs that will smash your jaw if you attack it. There are many lions on the Serengeti in Africa with smashed jaws, and they die because they can't eat because they have no jaws or teeth.

Sorry......that's what my pic is and I think there's another person on this site with the name of Ostrich....just thought it was fitting incase people thought this was just a dumb bird.

Hmmm, interesting. My first thought, after reading your post, was that the ostrich could gain leverage by buring his hand in the sand, but then I'm left wondering how the ostrich can see to place his/her kicks in the appropriate place?

As you can tell, I know absolutely nothing about ostriches. Exactly why do they bury their heads in the sand?
