Gun Control Becomes Democrats’ New Big Problem For 2014

March 31, 2014 by Sam Rolley

Things are looking pretty bad for Democrats seeking re-election in 2014. Not only has President Barack Obama’s healthcare overhaul become electoral poison for many Democrats, but the President’s massive gun-control push last year is also looking increasingly likely to cause them big losses at the polls.
According to the results of a Rasmussen poll published Monday, more Americans oppose stricter gun control laws than at any point in the past two years.
From the polling agency:
Most voters oppose tougher gun control for the first time since the Connecticut elementary school shootings in December 2012.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 40% of Likely U.S. Voters now think the United States needs stricter gun control laws, down nine points from last May and the lowest level of support for stricter laws since February 2012. Fifty-three percent (53%) do not think the country needs tougher gun control laws, the highest level of opposition in over two years.
Democratic leadership has already been making claims that midterm elections are always rough on the party who controls the White House. And while that may be partially true, it’s looking more and more like 2014 will be a referendum on individual Obama policies rather than a broad-brush rejection of the party in power.
