CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands — A U.S. Virgin Islands man was charged with reckless endangerment after he tried to charge into a federal building in St. Thomas while waving a pistol.

Police arrested 27-year-old Jamal Morton at the Ron De Lugo Federal Building in the capital of Charlotte Amalie on Friday afternoon after witnesses reported that he lost his balance on the building's front steps.

Morton was advised of his rights by a Superior Court magistrate in a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries from the fall.

It was not immediately clear if the visibly troubled man had a lawyer.

The high-security federal building houses courts and the offices of the U.S. attorney and marshal.
