The Hill launches Global Affairs blog

In-depth reporting and guest commentary examine the nexus of business and policy in a globalized world

Global Affairs - The Hill's Global Affairs

WASHINGTON, DC (May 3, 2012) – The Hill, outlet of record for policy makers and watchers inside and outside Washington, introduces a new Global Affairs blog, live at Global Affairs - The Hill's Global Affairs. For the first time The Hill’s coverage goes beyond the halls of Congress to examine the nexus of business and policy in a globalized world. The blog blends up-to-the-minute reporting, insight and analysis with contributions from newsmaking authorities to provide a critical look at key issues across all sectors of policy.

The Hill veteran staff writer and analyst Julian Pecquet is the blog’s editorial lead. Pecquet’s first article for the blog, “Foreign policy challenges abound prior to election day,” is joined by commentary by inaugural contributors Dr. Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations and former Special Assistant to George W. Bush (“More questions than answers in Afghanistan”) and Nikola Poposki, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, (“The unfinished business of NATO enlargement”). The blog also groups past The Hill articles that fall under the Global Affairs rubric.

Ongoing, Global Affairs will examine how U.S. legislative decisions shape policy throughout the world, and how, in turn, those global policies affect U.S. businesses. Coverage includes impact on the global financial markets, the nations lobbying effectively on Capitol Hill, and the lawmakers supporting or opposing trade agreements and other such policies. Guest columns will be written by senior members of the diplomatic corps in Washington - ambassadors and other heads of mission - plus senior foreign policy figures at the State Department, United Nations, World Bank, IMF and other international or multinational bodies.

“The launch of The Hill’s Global Affairs blog reflects the vital relationship between decisions made in Washington and developments overseas, says Hugo Gurdon, Editor-in-Chief, The Hill newspaper. “It’s a natural extension of our editorial coverage, joining an impressive line-up of policy blogs at TheHill.com, and like them will become a destination read both for policy professionals and the wider public.”

Over the past decade, Pecquet has covered Florida politics, the War on Terror in Africa and most recently the healthcare reform effort. A native of France with dual US citizenship, he is a graduate of the French Institute of Political Sciences in Strasbourg. He will move from Healthwatch, The Hill’s Healthcare blog, to take on Global Affairs.
