Thread: PRESCRIPTIONS DANGEROUS FOR NON-ENGLISH PATIENTS

THIS IS JUST ONE MORE REASON WHY IMMIGRANTS NEED TO LEARN ENGLISH. THIS IS DANGEROUS. WE ARE NOT DOING THEM ANY FAVORS BY NOT INSISTING THEY LEARN ENGLISH.

Immigrant Advocates Accuse Pharmacies Of Discrimination


Immigrant groups that say pharmacies are discriminating against non-English speaking New Yorkers filed a discrimination complaint with the state attorney general’s office Wednesday.

The suit names 16 pharmacies in Brooklyn, Queens, and the eastern suburbs.

Activists say the pharmacies do not provide written or spoken help to people who do not speak English. The communication breakdown is being blamed for medication misuse.

Yeah I agree. Unfortunately, both Walgreens and Osco drugs have a "We Speak Your Language" program that boasts their willingness to find someone who speaks just about any foreign language you could think of in order to accomodate non-English speakers. Do you suppose they will learn English if everything is offered to them in their native tongue? I'm sure the costs of this and other programs like it are passed down to the middle class American consumer.

It is up to each one of us to ensure that we understand what we are told, there is no excuse for stupidity.

Pharmacies DO have access to translators. Spanish is widely spoken in Queens as well as most of the US. Other languages, not so much.

Even English speakers are told: make SURE you understand what your doctor or pharmacist is telling you.

They can keep their Chinese made drugs. Only 13 of the 700 pharmaceutical companies making our medications are inspected in China. 80% of all US medications are imported. Swallow that.

Maybe it's time for them to move where they speak their language. We speak English in America if you can't speak it you shouldn't be here. This is our country we like our countries culture and language, if you don't get out!!

HOW WELL CAN THEY READ INSTRUCTIONS IN ENGLISH....SAY IF YOU ARE A PATIENT IN THE HOSPITAL AND YOUR NURSE DOES NOT SPEAK VERY GOOD ENGLISH.

They want to sneak in, invade us, take all the jobs, get all the 'minority' specials and 'newcomer freebies', force us to CHANGE OUR LANGUAGE to accommodate them all while they are crooks! It's like the guy who hid away in the garage of the family that went on vacation, he was locked in and he sued them for his suffering. OUT-Freakin-Rageous!!!!

They don't know how the medication is to be used - but yet they still use it?

I am leary enough of medicene when I do understand how it is to be administered - I certainly would not give any I didn't.
