President Donald Trump used his direct line to the American people overnight to alert them to an alarming development in the matter of Hillary Clinton’s unsecured email server — and to advise both the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to address it immediately — or face the consequences.

In the tweet, the president notes that classified information contained in Hillary Clinton’s emails — which went through an unsecured server that she kept in her home in Chappaqua, New York, roughly an hour north of New York City — was obtained by China in a hacking operation.

Further, Trump said that addressing the matter should be the FBI and DOJ’s “next move,” lest they risk further damage to their credibility.

Trump cited several examples of both organizations’ “missteps,” including those related to “Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page, Ohr, FISA, [and the] Dirty Dossier.”

The president appears to be referring to a bombshell report that appeared earlier this week from The Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF).

In it, the outlet detailed the activities of a public, Chinese, state-owned company operating in the Northern Virginia suburbs near Washington, D.C.

The company apparently infiltrated Clinton’s private email server and inserted code that forwarded “courtesy copies” of “nearly all” of her sent and received emails, in real time, to the Chinese company.

The reported hack was in effect throughout Clinton’s term as secretary of state — and it was part of an intelligence operation, according to the same outlet.

Though the publication did not reveal either of its two sources of the troubling revelation, statements from Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) during a judiciary hearing in July hearing appear to corroborate its veracity.

In that hearing, Gohmert noted that the FBI failed to act on the information concerning the hack by a foreign entity, which Gohmert said at the time was not Russia-related.

A pair of FBI memos referred to the Justice Department in early July of 2015 contained a warning that “classified information may have been disclosed to a foreign power or to one of its agents,” according to the DCNF report.

Peter Strzok and Sally Yates were among the officials briefed on or otherwise familiar with the alleged breach and criminal referral.

Though one of the unidentified sources the outlet cited — a former intelligence officer with expertise in cybersecurity issues — said he knows the identity of the Chinese company that hacked the server, the individual declined to name it specifically, saying he “would be in a lot of trouble” if he were to do so.

Only three nontechnology-related, Chinese, state-owned companies were operating in Fairfax and/or Loudon counties in northern Virginia during the time period in question.

A second source, identified as a “government staff official” familiar with the findings of the intelligence community inspector general (IG), said the Chinese company that hacked the emails was not technology-related.

The DCNF — the nonprofit arm of The Daily Caller — narrowed the possibilities considerably, however.

Only three nontechnology-related, Chinese, state-owned companies were operating in Fairfax and/or Loudon counties in northern Virginia during the time period in question.
