Many of these jobs used to be summer or after school jobs for students. A "foot in the door" for work experience. Not any more. Wages are low because there are people willing. Illegals. I have a retired friend that put himself through school framing houses. 60 years ago it paid $15/hr. Today, in LA, it pays $10. I can't understand why we pay citizens to sit on their duffs (welfare) in areas that have no jobs? Why can't we relocate them and have government subsidize the difference. They are collecting welfare, why not get some work out of them?

I make 8.00 per hour which is around bi weekly 520.00 take home.
A.Z unemployment paid me 260.00 per week plus 213.00 per month for food, plus I had health insurace, job assistance and more.Untill I went to work for 8.00 per hour.
Pretty funny, 35 years ago I was makeing 17.50 per hour with health insurance, Christmas bonus around 2000.00, and 2 weeks paid off.

Can you imagine the uproar if the Federal government started telling people where they had to live,
when they had to move - like it or not.
