Showing that Toyota isn't the only automaker feeling the heat of recalls, Honda just announced the expansion of a recall of some of its 2001 and 2002 models to replace an air-bag inflater on the driver's side.

The air bag can inflate with so much force that metal fragments are dispersed like shrapnel. The trouble is blamed on 12 incidents, the most recent having occurred last summer, including one death.

With an additional 378,758 vehicles to two previous waves, the recall now covers more than 826,000 vehicles. It is not Honda's largest recall ever. Before, the recall covered only Accords and Civics. Now it will include 2001 and 2001 Accords, Civics, Odyssey minivans, CR-V crossovers and some 2002 Acura TLs.
