According to a report on TheHill.com, House Republicans are more involved in the behind the scenes efforts to move a gun bill through the House than most might be led to believe based on public knowledge.

It has long been thought that even if the extremely divided Senate was to pass a gun bill, that it would most likely die a slow death in the GOP controlled House, especially with the midterm elections coming up.
According to TheHill.com,
But House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) told The Hill on Friday that he’s had “a lot of discussions” with Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on guns. Goodlatte suggested the Speaker is more involved in the behind-the-scenes wrangling of how to move a gun bill than the Ohio Republican has let on in public.

“We are trying to improve the system to keep people who are barred under the law from owning firearms, from getting access to them. We don’t think the things that were proposed in the Senate do that. So we have not backed away from trying to figure out how to improve that, but we’ve made no decisions yet about what to do,” Goodlatte explained.
There is a companion bill to the Manchin-Toomey Senate legislation in the House which was authored by

Rep. Pete King (RINO, NY). That legislation currently has 159 co-sponsors, which is extremely high for a bill that seems to be stuck in committee, so it’s not as if the House has taken no action on the issue of gun control.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has said she favors that bill along with the Manchin-Toomey Senate legislation (in case you needed another reason to dislike that legislation).

Now is the time to stay vigilant. While all eyes are on the Senate, don’t forget we have two distinct parts to our legislature and both can do significant harm to our Second Amendment rights under the right circumstances.
