Police in New York have arrested several hundred demonstrators involved in the latest protests against banks by a movement known as Occupy Wall Street.

Police said around 500 people were detained for blocking traffic during an unauthorised march across Brooklyn Bridge.

Activists have been camping out in New York's financial district for two weeks to protest against corporate greed and unemployment.

One of the demonstrators Henry-James Ferry said the police used a bull-horn to announce that they would be making arrests for disorderly conduct.
