HYPOCRISY: Gabby Giffords and husband enjoy recreational gun use with Glock that holds 17 rounds

Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelley are strange poster children for gun control. Since Gifford’s near-fatal shooting in 2011, the husband-wife team have travelled around the country advocating stronger gun control laws, including bans on “assault weapons” and large capacity magazine.

However, in a new CNN interview, it is revealed that Kelley and Giffords still enjoy recreational shooting with the same model Glock handgun that was used in her shooting. Not only that, but somehow they find a way to excuse their hypocrisy by pointing out that their gun only holds 17 rounds instad of the 33-round magazine that the shooter used. 17 rounds would still violate the ban on “high capacity” magazines that both Kelley and Giffords advocated in Colorado, New York, and Connecticut.

from the Hill:

Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) sometimes watches her husband shoot guns recreationally.

CNN released a taped interview with Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, where Kelly is shown shooting a Glock 9 millimeter handgun at pots and bottles while Giffords watches on a patio at her mother’s house in Arizona.

The Glock 9 millimeter is the same gun that was used in the shooting massacre in Tucson, Arizona in early 2011 where Giffords suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Kelly notes that the Glock he fires recreationally holds 17 rounds while the one used in Tucson held 33 rounds.

Kelly and Giffords have become some of the most prominent proponents of strengthening gun laws. They run the group Americans for Responsible Solutions which advocates policies meant to reduce gun violence.

Mark Kelly, it is worth noting, recently tried to purchase an AR-15, was required to undergo a background check, and was eventually turned down by the gun store.

Last month, photos showing Gabby Giffords posing with various “assault weapons” surfaced, and again they both excused their behavior as somehow an exception to the legal restrictions they’re openly trying to impose on others.

Now, the Giffords’s have shifted their focus on “universal background checks.” Giffords even penned an op-ed in the New York Daily News which implies that her shooter evaded a background check. This is patently untrue. Jared Loughner obtained his gun legally, and none of the measures that Giffords now advocates would have prevented him from purchasing his gun.

Giffords and her husband make the assertion in the CNN interview that they are great spokespeople for gun control because they “understand the gun culture.” This strikes me as absurd because the two of them barely seem to understand how incredibly hypocritical and counter-logic their actions are.
