The Media is tanking because its completely lost any and all objectivity already.

The Media should learn how to cut its production expenses first of all. But if the Media becomes beholding to the Obama Administration, as Obama is beholding to them for his election, then the taxpayers who fund such a bail-out should protest against the Media.

What a sick joke!!! If they would report the news instead of propaganda they would not need a bail out.

I have done without TV for over 20 yrs. Can anybody tell me what I missed? Just wondering. Please break it to me gently, I would not want to become depressed.

I'm thinking of getting rid of mine too. I have to give up something.

I think that I can see most shows and news stations on HULU and podcasts and Live radio.
I want cable news live and not the NEXT DAY.

I'm hoping more shows and cable News shows will run on the computer soon.

Wouldn't Obama love it if we all got so poor from his deceit and plan to
overtake America and make it into a 3rd world country.
That way he will feel AT HOME!
PLUS he will feel like a bigger deal than the arrogant Narcissist already feels!

You're not missing anything, Roundabout. Both the big screens (theatrical) and the little screens (television) show nothing but crap today... and I mean crap with a capitol "S". There's nothing worthwhile on the screens anymore and production costs have shot through the roof. Think of the hundreds of millions of dollars that are wasted on film and television production today that reflect nothing but violence. Practically every attempt to clone classic movies and television series by present-day Producers has met with failure at the box-office or in the ratings. Why? Because most Producers today cannot understand the values that were put into those classic shows of the past.

I'll give you an example. Recently, I bought three seasons of "Father Knows Best." Yes, it was an idealization of family life, but it did serve to teach everyone some very important lessons in virtually every aspect of life. The Anderson family were often depicted as saying grace at the table before dinner; of occasionally referring to God. Heaven forbid! Karl Marx would be turning over in his grave!!! Oh, did I say "Heaven forbid?" Perhaps I should have said "May the Proletariat forgive!"

And would you believe that in one of those DVD's, there is a show that was produced but not aired on prime-time television, as a pitch for buying U.S. Savings Bonds? In that show, entitled "24 Hours in Tyrantland," the Andersons; in order to demonstrate the importance of buying savings bonds to support our freedoms, experiment with what it would be like to be living in a Marxist society with no freedoms and with complete government contol. Was that episode ever ahead of its time!!! I kid you not... it's there on the DVD! It was produced in cooperation with the U.S. Treasury at the time. It also helped demonstrate the importance of saving for the future... not going into debt like our current President has recommended by advocating second mortgages and thereby becoming more dependent on the government and bail-outs.

If you have a good DVD or Video Library of classic movies and old television series, one can entertain one's self for infinity without having to resort to the tawdry, rude, dark, violent and cynical material that is on television today. In addition, a library of good books will also be beneficial in any home. Books can provide hours of entertainment and it will bring back a skill that is mostly lost in America today... reading.

I think if more and more people would resort to books or classic movies or television series in a home library, the film and television producers would finally get the message that most Americans don't want the tripe that is being produced today.

Of course, once the tax rates are increased to handle Socialized Medicine, many Producers won't be able to afford making films or television series anymore, what with the rising cost of production and extremely over-priced actors. They won't be exempt from the extreme taxation that will come with Socialized Medicine and Global Tax. They'll take off to other countries where they will not be taxed... many have been doing that for years now. It's called "runaway production." We'll probably be getting government directed programming... just like they have in Socialist countries... with lots of propoganda for the Socialist/Marxist "progress." And if the government bails out the media, then the media will be like putty in the government's hands... not that it hasn't been already. Freedom of speech will be gone forever.

So why are we letting this happen in America? Perhaps we don't read enough and learn to think for ourselves??!! If Americans could learn to think for themselves and ultimately learn to speak up for themselves, perhaps they wouldn't be so prone to allow themselves to become so dependent upon the government to do their thinking for them... and to take control over every aspect of their lives.

No Roundabout... You're not missing a damn thing with what's being served up on television today.

This brings me to the What if? What if so many people were not influenced or mesmerized by their TV? What would conversations be like? What other things would have been accomplished in the time that was spent watching such propaganda? What would the corporations be doing in order to demand some of our money? What would our homes look like? What would the neighborhood look like? What would the government look like? What would the schools look like? What would our children look like? Would they think differently?

This may sound horrible or even arrogant, but sometimes it is like talking to a drunk when striking up a general conversation with a person. They ask questions or make comments about such things as the Sopranos or Bart Simpson or some TV commercial about some auto or truck. I am left trying to evaluate wether to make a b-line for the exit or try and steer the conversation into another direction. The selfish side of me wonders what have I missed, what could I have gained from a conversation not influenced by the propaganda of Hollywood and Madison Avenue? What will Americans look like when Hollywood actors and actresses cut off their nose to spite their face?

One hundred years ago a man had to work very hard just to survive, now a man has to work (or perhaps not) to pay bills and have propaganda pumped into his living room.
