The article did not state if the 2 men were illegal immigrants but with the forged documents and fake names, odds are they are.

WATERLOO, Iowa -- Two California men have been arrested by Waterloo police in connection with an alleged attempt to cash counterfeit checks.

Eulalio Torres of Azusa, Calif. and Edwin Hernandez of Los Angeles were questioned Tuesday after police received a report two people were trying to cash bogus checks at Hometown Cash Advantage.

Torres and Hernandez were detained when police allegedly found they had Iowa drivers licenses identifying them as Victor Lazo and Edwin Ortiz.

According to court records, the cards lacked the holographic seal security feature and had words spelled in Spanish.

Both were arrested for possession of forged documents and third-degree theft and each were being held Thursday in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Public defender Matt Hoffey did not immediately return a telephone call for comment on the case.
