Legislature opening day prayer stirs controversy

The legislature’s opening-day prayer from a Muslim imam has sparked controversy over statements he made that some say is terrorists’ call to harm Americans.
But Des Moines representative and activist Ako Abdul-Samad say the man’s words are being taken out of context. Abdul-Samad asked his colleagues on the House floor for tolerance, compassion and a renewed sense of understanding of other cultures.
“We’re as much against those who use religion to harm people as anybody else is,â€"Distrust and caution are the parents of security."
