Merchants charged in counterfeits case

Two Downtown El Paso merchants were charged in connection with selling counterfeit brand-name clothing, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Wednesday.

Ali Mahmoud el-Reda, of the 11900 block of Crown Royal, is charged with one count of trafficking in counterfeit goods and smuggling goods into the U.S contrary to law. His cousin, Akil Moussa el Reda, of the 400 block of S. Mesa Hills, is charged with one count of smuggling goods into the United States and one count of trafficking in counterfeit goods.

ICE special agents seized merchandise Tuesday with a value of more than $500,000 at New York Fashions, 210B S. Mesa, and Milano, 219 E. San Antonio. The merchandise came to El Paso from China via California, an ICE spokeswoman said.
