Outsourcing DMV data to Mexico

Lets make it easier for them to vote too ok?
By Michelle Malkin • July 27, 2007 11:33 AM John and Ken at KFI in Los Angeles flagged this story yesterday about Orange County, California’s outsourcing of DMV data processing to Mexico. The Orange County Register follows up. Officials are blaming the talk radio messengers, naturally, instead of acknowledging the potential for harm:
Orange County’s Superior Court contracts with a company that uses workers in Nogales, Mexico, to do the data entry of traffic tickets, a revelation on Thursday that outraged many who fear personal information is leaving the country.
The court has contracted since March 2006 with Cal Coast Data Entry, Inc., a Cerritos company that has a facility in Nogales. Information from tickets – including drivers’ license numbers, car license numbers, birth dates and addresses – are scanned at the Cerritos facility and sent electronically to the Mexican facility.
In a statement issued Thursday evening, court officials defended use of the company, saying transfer of ticket information was by electronic encryption and the company has state-of-the-art security.
“The company and the staff they employ are dedicated to keeping the public’s data secure and safe,â€<div>''Life's tough......it's even tougher if you're stupid.''

What a perfect way to outsource ID theft and document fraud to a country who actively encourages it's citizens to invade us.

Background-
A long time ago, int the late 1980's, back when we had computers the size of ROOMS, and punched cards. The county of Orange came to the then folks who ran its data center"MMDS" Martin Murietta Data Systems, and told MMDS that they were going to ship all this material to TJ, on a weekly basis, then it would be transmitted BACK to the datacenter on TAPES (the big roundy thingys) for us to process!
Well, we raised HECK! and said that was really crapy, and what about the risk of information being stolen by "people in TJ"... it was said by the OC Datacenter Management (County Side) that there was little risk, and that the company that had won the "LOWEST BID" had been doing this for quite some time now with other cities!
Hello, other cities also! sure enough, they had contracted with this crapy little TJ business to do all of the data entry for a dozen or so sompanies & cities in TJ!
Clear picture now!
So, as time went on we shipped boxes of source material to TJ, under the guidelines of the "County" and that little crapy business down in TJ sent us "Tapes" to run on our mainframes!
So, now you know a little more about how this came to happen....And I will bet a dinner at Ruth Criss's that there are HUNDREDS of other cities, state agencies that do the same!
There it is, my version of a time long ago.....
