A non-binary Biden administration nuclear official accused of stealing a woman’s suitcase from the Minneapolis airport allegedly emptied out the clothes and used the bag for a month — despite insisting it was picked up by accident.
Sam Brinton — one of the federal government’s first gender non-binary officials — allegedly snatched the $2,325 Vera Bradley suitcase from baggage claim at Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport back on Sept. 16, court documents say.
When Brinton, who uses they/them pronouns, was confronted by police nearly a month later, they initially denied stealing the bag — insisting their clothes were inside the suitcase at the time.
But Brinton, the deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition at the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy, quickly backtracked and claimed they had taken the piece of luggage by mistake.
Brinton told police they first realized the bag wasn’t theirs when they opened it at the hotel, according to the court filing.

Sam Brinton — one of the federal government’s first gender non-binary officials — was charged with felony theft of a moveable property without consent over the alleged stolen suitcase.

They got nervous that someone would think they stole it, so they emptied out the suitcase and dumped the woman’s clothes in the drawers of the hotel room, the court documents say.

Brinton allegedly put the ordeal down to exhaustion.
When police were first alerted to the stolen bag, they reviewed surveillance footage that showed Brinton allegedly grabbing the luggage from the carousel and removing the ID tag identifying the owner.
Brinton was later captured on surveillance using the same suitcase on at least two trips to Washington, DC, on Sept. 18 and Oct. 9, according to authorities.
Police first made contact with Brinton on Oct. 9 about the alleged stolen suitcase.
“If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I don’t have any clothes for another individual,” Brinton initially told the cop. “That was my clothes when I opened the bag.”
Brinton called the officer back two hours and confessed to not being “completely honest.”

They were placed on leave in the wake of the allegations and another official was named as their interim replacement earlier this month, according to the Exchange Monitor, which tracks government officials’ moves.
If convicted, Brinton could face up to five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.

A Biden administration official is on leave after they were charged with stealing a Vera Bradley suitcase worth over $2,000 from a Minnesota airport

    • Brinton works at the US Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Energy.

A Biden administration official has been charged with felony theft and is on leave from their post after being accused of stealing a mother's Vera Bradley suitcase from an airport in Minnesota, according to court documents and the federal government.
Sam Brinton, the deputy assistant secretary of the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition at the Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Energy, was accused of taking the luggage from baggage claim at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on September 16, according to a complaint filed last month.

How Brittney Griner's journey to basketball glory led her to a Russian penal colony, where she's become Vladimir Putin's prized political pawn

    • Brittney Griner has been moved from the detention facility outside Moscow, where she has been held the last nine months.
    • The American basketball star is heading to a penal colony, her lawyers in Russia said Wednesday.
    • Before her wrongful detainment, Griner was en route to a historic, record-breaking basketball career.

Brittney Griner has been wrongfully detained in Russia for more than eight months.
But before her February arrest — when officials at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport found vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her luggage — the 6-foot-9 Houston native was best known for her incredible abilities on the basketball court.
From growing up in and around Houston, Texas, and discovering her basketball talent in early high school to becoming a NCAA hoops sensation and, eventually, a WNBA superstar well on her way to the Hall of Fame, Griner enjoyed a rapid and surreal rise to basketball glory.
But even more suddenly, her entire life has been ripped away from her.
Here is the story of how a gangly Texan grew into a generational talent — and eventually became Vladimir Putin's prized bargaining chip.

Surveillance footage captured Brinton, 35, taking the Vera Bradley luggage from the carousel at around 4:45 p.m. after Brinton arrived at the airport on an American Airlines flight from Washington, DC, the court documents allege.
The complaint states that Brinton took off the bag's tag and left the area "at a quick pace" before hopping into a cab; records from American Airlines show Brinton never checked a bag before they left Washington DC, according to the court papers.
Brinton was then caught on surveillance footage checking into a luxury riverfront hotel in St. Paul with the bag, the complaint says.
Two days later, on September 18, Brinton was seen checking the bag before boarding a flight back to Washington DC, the documents state. Brinton was again seen on surveillance video carrying the bag at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia after returning from a Europe trip on October 9, investigators said.

When a Minnesota police officer called Brinton that day, Brinton denied taking someone else's bag.
"If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I don't have any clothes for another individual. That was my clothes when I opened the bag," Brinton told the officer, the complaint states.
The complaint alleges that Brinton then called the officer back two hours later and apologized for not being "completely honest."
Brinton told the officer that they were tired and picked up the wrong bag and only realized when they got to the hotel and opened the suitcase.
The complaint says Brinton "got nervous people would think they stole the bag and did not know what to do."
Brinton told police they left the clothes from the bag inside the drawers in the hotel room and admitted to taking the bag back to the airport on September 18.
When Brinton was questioned why they would use the bag, Brinton said they thought it would be "weirder" to leave the luggage in the hotel room rather than the clothes, the court papers say.
Police did not recover any clothes from the hotel room where Brinton stayed and as of October 27 — when the complaint was filed — the owner of the Vera Bradley bag has not gotten it back, according to the court documents.
The Department of Energy told Insider on Tuesday that Brinton is "on leave" from the agency and that Dr. Kim Petry is now "performing the duties of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition."
An attorney for Brinton did not immediately respond to a request for comment by Insider.
Brinton, who is one of the federal government's first openly "gender fluid" employees, faces up to five years in prison or a $10,000 fine or both. They are scheduled to make their first court appearance in Minnesota's 4th Judicial District Court on December 19.
Since the news of Brinton's arrest, Republicans like former President Donald Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., have used the criminal case to bash Brinton over their gender identity.
"Who could have seen this coming from they/them?" Trump Jr. said in a tweet.
GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert tweeted, "This man, hired by Joe Biden, is a thief" along with a photo of Brinton in a dress.

Biden's Kinky They/Them Nuke Official Charged With Another Airport Luggage Theft

    FRIDAY, DEC 09, 2022 - 08:01 AM

A new felony arrest warrant has just been issued for Sam Brinton, the senior Department of Energy official who just weeks ago confessed to stealing luggage
at the Minneapolis airport on Sept 16.
Now, the ostentatiously "non-binary" deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition stands accused of perpetrating the same crime at the Las Vegas airport, according to KLAS. The date of the alleged Vegas theft has not yet been publicized.
Brinton's January 2022 appointment to a sensitive nuclear post was hailed as a shining example of the Biden administration's "inclusivity," with Brinton claiming the crown tiara as the barrier-breaking first openly "gender fluid" person to have a federal leadership role.

Brinton's no gender studies grad -- he has dual masters degrees in nuclear science and engineering from MIT. His appointment raised eyebrows, however -- and not only because of his fabulous cross-dressing, which includes wearing stiletto heels to work.

It’s official. As of June 19th, I now serve my nation as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Office of Nuclear Energy in the Department of Energy.

    7:26 PM · Jun 29, 2022

The more people scrolled through Brinton's public social media posts, the stranger things got. Most strikingly, it turns out that the senior U.S. official overseeing nuclear waste -- which in the wrong hands, is suitable for creating a dirty bomb and maybe something worse -- is a vocal aficionado of "puppy play"...

Brinton (left) in a photo we struggle to caption (Metro Weekly via The National Pulse) ...to the extent this fellow granted the DoE's equivalent of a Top Secret clearance -- in a position deemed Critical-Sensitive (CS)/High Risk -- is considered an expert of sorts on puppy play, having participated in a presentation at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Brinton (standing) during an event at the University of Nebraska at OmahaWe'd like to emphasize that this information doesn't come from prying into his personal life, but rather him thrusting his personal life into public view.
Thirty-five-year-old Brinton's senior role puts him above the ordinary "GS" level and among the esteemed ranks of the Senior Executive Service (SES), where his $178,063 salary should be more than ample to fund the luggage purchases of his dreams.
But here we are, with him charged as a serial luggage thief...which may prove to be a kink of a different flavor.

Brinton (right) with Assistant Health Secretary Rachel Levine (Sam Brinton/InstagramWhich takes us back to his initial thievery. A few weeks after the Minneapolis incident, when police asked Brinton if he'd taken a bag that wasn't his, he at first said "not that I know of." Some time later that day, Brinton contacted the same officer and admitted taking the bag, but blamed tiredness and portrayed it as an accident.
Spinning apparent lie after lie, Brinton said he panicked when he opened the bag and realized it wasn't his, and left the clothing behind in the hotel room. Asked why he took the luggage with him and ditched the woman's clothes, police say Brinton claimed he didn't want to leave the bag because it was "weirder" to leave the bag than the clothes.
Perhaps the honest answer is that the woman's clothes weren't his size.
His claim about mistakenly taking the luggage crumbled when police determined that Brinton wasn't even traveling with a checked bag, but nonetheless proceeded to the baggage carousel and scooped up a suitcase belonged to a woman traveling from New Orleans with her son. Security footage reportedly shows Brinton removed the owner's name tag before strutting off ahead of a speaking engagement with LGBTQ engineering students.
A few weeks later, Brinton jetted off to Europe with the stolen 26-inch, navy blue, hard-sided Vera Bradley roller bag, valued at $295.

When the Minneapolis airport police called, Brinton may have looked something like thisIn Las Vegas, he's charged with grand larceny of property valued between $1,200 and $5,000. In Minnesota, he faces a penalty of up to five years in jail, a $10,000 fine or both.
Brinton was already on a temporary leave of absence over the Minneapolis incident. Last week, the White House refused to say if Brinton is still receiving his salary.

Having been accused of stealing luggage from airports in two separate incidents, President Biden's non-binary deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition has left the administration.

A Department of Energy spokesperson said on Monday evening:
"Sam Brinton is no longer a DOE employee. By law, the Department of Energy cannot comment further on personnel matters."
Brinton, 35, who was appointed in June, faces charges for the incidents at both the Las Vegas and Minneapolis airports and they are due in court in Minnesota on December 19.

The White House has repeatedly refused to comment on the scandal, claiming it is a non-political issue.

The Department of Energy has also tried to distance Biden from the issue.
We are sure the groundswell of the Alphabet-Twitter will be up in arms decrying the Biden administrations decision to fire the klepto as some brazen act of prejudice and bias is some form transphobism?
