Iranians and Afghan Removed From Flight, No Reservations, No Tickets and No Visas

Last Friday, November 1st, Air Canada Flight #075 was delayed for five hours before it was able to depart. It was not delayed for any of the usual reasons such as weather or traffic, but due to some extra passengers being on-board. The flight was Toronto-bound from Caracas and had already completed the boarding process when the problem was discovered.

Luis Graterol, the head of the Simon Bolivar Maiquetia International Airport, stated that the captain of the flight is the one who determined there was a discrepancy. All of the passengers were forced to disembark until the Venezuelan military determined the scope of the situation and identified the suspects.

A total of five extra passengers were on board, four Iranians and one Afghan. None had legitimate tickets and none had a visa to enter Canada.
The investigation determined that four people were involved in facilitating the breach, and charges will be pressed against them. They are: a member of Venezuela’s immigration office, an Air Canada employee, and two employees of an airport security company. The office of Venezuela’s prosecutor general stated that the employees will face charges “linked to the illegal trafficking of five foreigners.”

There was no information provided regarding whether or not the five passengers would face criminal action.
