Islamic State group in Egypt claims it downed Russian plane

CAIRO: A militant group affiliated to Islamic State in Egypt claimed responsibility for the downing of a Russian passenger plane that crashed in Egypt's Sinai peninsula on Saturday, the group said in a statement circulated by supporters on Twitter.

Egyptian security sources earlier on Saturday said early investigations suggested the plane crashed due to a technical fault.

The claim of responsibility was also carried by the Aamaq website which acts as a semi official news agency for Islamic State.

"The fighters of the Islamic State were able to down a Russian plane over Sinai province that was carrying over 220 Russian crusaders. They were all killed, thanks be to God," the statement circulated on Twitter said.

Several Egyptian military and security officials said there are no survivors from the Russian passenger plane carrying 224 people which crashed shortly after taking off from Sharm el-Sheikh, a popular Red Sea tourist destination.

They also said that all the victims in Saturday's Metrojet plane crash were Russian citizens. Russian president Vladimir Putin has declared November 1 as the day of mourning.

Aside from the 30 Christians beheaded in Libya earlier this year another was beheaded in October, Christians in Libya were beheaded shortly after Kadafi was taken out and you have to wonder why the action was taken as Christians were also beheaded in Iraq immediately after Sadam was taken out - Iraq proved you cannot make a democracy out of these muslim countries. What idiot promoted the arab spring crap? I believe it was this administration and in very poor judgement. - it follows the bush initiative to make money from war. Back to back bad news. Obama hinted at giving them an education and jobs...WHAT!

A few months ago, the aged antiquities scholar was beheaded in Syria for not disclosing location of hidden valuables and now Turkey and Egypt too. Germany is allowing muslims to walk thru the streets with black flags.

More needs to be done @ isis. Put the populace in safe zones and have a coalition destroy isis camps in all those countries. This little playing round with raids etc is not enough. It is a sickness that must go before they acquire nukes, WMDs.
