Israel Believes GOP Candidates Will Not “Dare to Oppose” Iran Attack

Further warnings that Israel will attack Iran emerged during the Munich security conference this past weekend. Analysts said Israel will likely attack in June or July, well ahead of the U.S. presidential elections.

Obama says U.S. and Israel are “lockstep” on Iran.

According to a report posted by the Inter Press Service, experts on foreign relations believe Israel’s attack on Iran will seek to influence U.S. presidential elections in November.

Francois Heisbourg, president of the French International Institute for Strategic Studies, said if Israel conducts an attack during the summer before the elections, it will not fear “any immediate political consequences, since none of the U.S. candidates would dare to oppose the attack during the campaign.”

The Obama administration said recently it is working in “lockstep” with Israel against Iran. All of the Republican candidates support sanctions and military action against Iran with the exception of Ron Paul who has said any attack without a declaration of war by Congress would be unconstitutional.

Paul said Iran does not threaten our national security. He said “they can’t even produce enough gasoline for their automobiles,” let alone attack the United States.

In December, Paul’s fellow candidates criticized his constitutional stance during the debate in Sioux City, Iowa.

Rick Santorum said Iran has been at war with the United States since 1979 and is responsible for killing U.S. soldiers in Iraq.

Mitt Romney said the “free world” should not base its foreign policy on “pretty please” and called for expanding the size of the U.S. military.

Michele Bachmann labeled Paul as dangerous and said Iran will develop a nuclear weapon and wipe both Israel and the United States off the map.

Rick Perry said if he was president he would “use military force to destroy key Iranian nuclear sites.”

Newt Gingrich has competed with Rick Santorum for the title of the most belligerent GOP candidate on the Iran issue. In November, he called for assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists and a “joint operation” against Iran with Israel.

Since making their comments, Michele Bachman and Rick Perry have dropped out of the GOP race.

This could be Mr. Obama's chance to take the moral high ground as a wartime President allying the U.S. "in lockstep with Israel" for battle against America's most powerful and determined enemy (outside Washington, D.C.): Iran, the Is|amic Republic, Russia's proxy for nuclear war.
