    Israel Launches Ground Offensive In Gaza

    As much of the world focuses on the Malaysian flight that was allegedly shot down over Ukraine, Israel is preparing to launch a ground offensive against Palestinians living in Gaza.

    Announcing the offensive on Twitter, the Israeli Defense Forces wrote "Our goal is to target Hamas' tunnels that enable terrorists to infiltrate Israel and carry out attacks.”

    Although there was a brief ceasefire early Thursday so as to allow “residents to stock up on food and other supplies,” fighting resumed between the Israeli occupiers and Hamas when rockets were fired into Israeli occupied territory.

    The Israelis responded by launching two airstrikes in the Gaza strip.

    Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, an Israeli military spokesman, stated that the operation will be open-ended and that “We [Israel] will be striking the infrastructure. We will be striking the operatives in order to safeguard the civilians of the state of Israel especially issues to do with tunneling, that was exemplified earlier today."

    The ground offensive comes as no surprise as thousands of Israeli soldiers had begun massing on the border of Gaza in recent days.
    Israeli media have already reported the rumblings of Israeli tanks and D9 bulldozers that are now making their way across the border and signaling that the operation has both a military goal as well as a political agenda of ethnic cleansing.

    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that he has instructed the military to go ahead with the operation after Hamas rejected an Egyptian-brokered peace plan.

    "In light of the despicable and relentless aggression by Hamas and the dangerous infiltration into Israel, Israel is obliged to protect its citizens," he said.

    Protecting Israeli citizens, of course, is simply another name for the ethnic cleansing and further colonization of land that does not belong to the occupying force known to the world as Israel.

    United Nations officials handed Hamas missiles found last week in a U.N.-run school in Gaza to the Palestinian government, according to a Western diplomat familiar with the case who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon.

    At least 20 rockets were discovered last week in a Gaza school run by the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which operates several schools in Gaza and elsewhere.


    Israeli officials claimed on Sunday that the weapons were given back to Hamas, but Western sources familiar with the case say that they were turned over to “local authorities” working under the Palestinian unity government.


    It remains unclear exactly where the rockets are now and who has possession of them.
    Hamas backs the unity government, but its exact role in the government has become less clear since recent hostilities broke out between the terror group and Israel. The dispute over where the weapons went is a sign of continued uncertainty over the government’s status in the Gaza Strip, where local police are known to be Hamas affiliates.

    “There is absolutely no evidence that UNRWA handed the rockets over to Hamas,” a Western diplomat working on the issue told the Free Beacon. “The authorities who came and collected the weapons are under the direct authority of the government of national consensus which Hamas has left and which many in Hamas are openly hostile to.”


    A UNRWA official also maintained that the rockets were handed over to “local authorities” working for the official Palestinian government.


    “According to longstanding U.N. practice in U.N. humanitarian operations worldwide, incidents involving unexploded ordnance that could endanger beneficiaries and staff are referred to the local authorities,” UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunness told the Free Beacon in a statement.


    UNRWA has come under fire repeatedly by the Israelis, who claim the agency has an anti-Israel bias and encourages hostility against the Jewish state. Israel’s U.N. ambassador demanded last week that Gunness specifically be removed from his post for an “ongoing pattern of anti-Israel bias.”


    Gunness maintained that UNRWA “took all necessary measures” to ensure the missiles were properly removed from the school.


    “Immediately after the discovery of the rockets, UNRWA proactively informed the relevant parties and successfully took all necessary measures for the removal of the objects in order to preserve the safety and security of the school,” Gunness said. “Local authorities fall under the government of national consensus in Ramallah.

    They pledged to pass a message to all parties not to violate UNRWA neutrality.”


    However, local authorities in the Gaza Strip, including the police, are under the control of Hamas. UNRWA did not respond to further Free Beacon questions attempting to discern the exact authorities or government branch the weapons were handed over to.


    Israeli officials believe that UNRWA called local police to pick up the weapons. These police in the Gaza Strip are known to be loyal to and operated by Hamas.


    “There is no central technocratic authority in the Gaza Strip. Hamas is in complete control, which is part of the problem and why the Israelis went in,” said Jonathan Schanzer, vice president of research at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.


    UNRWA now says that it has launched an investigation to determine exactly how Hamas missiles came to be stashed in one of its schools.



    A “Board of Inquiry” has been established to examine “the circumstances surrounding the incident,” according to Gunness.

    The board will collect evidence and conduct interviews with “material witnesses.” This information will then be used in an investigation that will commence when the conflict between Israel and Hamas ends.


    UNRWA claims that this is the first time missiles of any sort have been discovered in one of its facilities. The Israeli military has claimed in past conflicts that Hamas uses the U.N. schools as a base to fire rockets.


    “UNRWA strongly condemns the group or groups responsible for placing the weapons in one of its installations,” Gunness said. “This is a flagrant violation of the inviolability of UNRWA premises under international law. This incident, which is the first of its kind in Gaza, endangered civilians including staff and put at risk

    UNRWA’s vital mission to assist and protect Palestine refugees in Gaza.”


    According to a report released by the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center, the incident is not the first of its kind.


    “This case of placing rockets in an UNRWA school was not the first incident of its kind in Gaza, because Hamas and the other terrorist organizations routinely and systematically use educational installations (many of which belong to UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip for military-terrorist purposes,” the report says. “By doing so they endanger the children and teaching staff, and grossly violate the international laws governing war.”

    Over 200 people have been killed in the last week, 41 of them are children. The media tells us this is due to a decades old conflict fueled by hate. This hate is a fog that conceals the real obstacle to peace -- war and subjugation are profitable, so certain companies keep them alive. It's time we tell these companies to uphold the law and divest!


    I haven't slept in the last 10 days. Friends in Gaza call me throughout the night to tell me who we've lost. My heart is swollen with sadness. Over 200 people have been killed, 41 are kids. I have lived through these cycles of violence my whole life. But at this moment in history there is finally a way to put an end to it, once and for all, and our global community is the key.

    The media talks about the current war as part of an unsolvable conflict fueled by hate. But this hate is a fog that conceals the real obstacle to peace -- war and subjugation are profitable, so companies have kept them alive, for decades. That's why the only solid way to peace is to cut the revenues that sustain the violence.

In South Africa under apartheid, people like us launched a global movement and proved that when enough people stand up to abusive companies, they withdraw, and freedom becomes attainable.

France's Veolia owns and operates transport for Israeli settlers illegally living on Palestinian lands, sustaining a system of segregation. The Netherlands' pension fund ABP allows its Israeli financial partners to fund illegal colonies in occupied Palestine. These illegal settlements breed fanatics like those who just burnt 16-year old Mohammad alive in Jerusalem. Computer giant Hewlett-Packard supplies sophisticated surveillance to control the movement of Palestinians. British G4S provides extensive security equipment that runs the Israeli occupation. And Barclays invests in military companies that produce the hardware and drones that are right now dropping bombs on kids in Gaza and are at the core of the blockade the UN has called "inhumane". These companies can pull out their investments in an instant, but they won't unless they feel they are publicly toxic. It's up to us to come together, change the equation, and tell them: enough is enough!

    Obama has been on a jihad against Israel ever since he took office. He is deeply, deeply anti-Israel. Summing up Obama's approach to global conflicts, he always sides against freedom and with submission:

    Muslim Brotherhood? Check!
    Al-Qaida in Syria? Check!
    Al-Qaida in Libya? Check!
    Muslim Brotherhood in Syria? Check!
    Muslim Brotherhood in Gaza (Hamas)? Check!
    Jihad regime in Iran? Check!

    Israel? Bully, threaten and humiliate the tiny Jewish state.

    But the law of unintended consequences will surely kick in (as it has in every one of Obama's catastrophic foreign policy blunders). Israel will rely on her own power. Israel must not look to America now. Israel must no longer subjugate her national self-interest to the capricious whim of America.

    The savagery of Hamas in targeting innocent civilians doesn't bother Obama. Nor does the cheering of Palestinian Muslims in Hebron as Hamas rockets fly toward Israeli population centers. Now Hamas has warned airlines not to fly into Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. Will he tell Netanyahu to turn over half of Ben-Gurion Airport, as well as half of Jerusalem, to the jihadis?

    Obama's incoherent and disastrous foreign policy has remade the Middle East in the few short years of his reign. A once-stable region has now descended into the mad chaos of Islamic wars and conquest.

    The Islamic State is tearing through the Middle East, conquering one city, one town after another. Jihad groups across Africa wage bloody holy war in Nigeria, the Central African Republic, Kenya and beyond. Hamas continues its barrage of rockets against the tiny Jewish state.

    In the midst of this jihad onslaught, Obama is writing strongly worded op-eds, praising the jihadists while backhandedly scolding Israel. In an op-ed in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Obama wrote: "In President Abbas, Israel has a counterpart committed to a two-state solution and security cooperation with Israel." He offered no such kind words about Netanyahu.

    Netanyahu, by contrast, sees the situation clearly. He said Friday: "I think the Israeli people understand now what I always say: that there cannot be a situation, under any agreement, in which we relinquish security control of the territory west of the River Jordan." He said he doesn't want Judea and Samaria to become another Gaza – another jihad base against Israel.

    Finally. Insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Israeli concessions, land giveaways, thousands of Gaza rockets, beheadings of civilians like the Fogel family, schoolboy kidnappings and endless war is the reality of the Islamic religious imperative of the jihad against the Jews. Netanyahu knows this; but in the wake of the jihad rocket attacks, Obama urged Israel to show restraint in the face of hundreds of rockets raining down on southern Israel.

    In pressing Israel to make concessions to the jihadis, Obama is violating international law. As Caroline Glick explains in her book, "The Israeli Solution: A One-State Plan for Peace in the Middle East":

    Except during periods when they were physically barred from doing so – most recently during the Jordanian an occupation of these areas from 1949 to 1967 – Jews have lived in Judea and Samaria from time immemorial, just as they have lived in the rest of the historic land of Israel for the better part of 4,000 years. Based on this historical connection, in 1922 the League of Nations granted the Jewish people sovereign rights to Judea and Samaria and the rest of Israel.

    On May 15, 1948, the day the Jewish state declared independence, Jordan joined Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq in invading Israel with the intent of annihilating it. Jordan ended the war in possession of northern, southern, and eastern Jerusalem as well as today and Samaria. Under international law, this was an illegal war of aggression. All Jews who had been living in the areas that the Jordanians conquered were expelled from their homes hundred for massacred or taken captive in Jordan. The official position of the Israeli government is that Israel has a right to sovereignty over the areas.

    The San Remo Conference was attended by Great Britain, France, Italy and Japan – with the United States as a neutral observer. It was held in San Remo, Italy, in April 1920 and resolved to incorporate the Balfour Declaration in Britain's mandate in Palestine. Thus Britain was made responsible "for putting into effect the declaration made on the 8th [sic.] November 1917 by the British Government and adopted by the other Allied Powers, in favor of the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people; it being clearly understood that nothing should be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."

    None of this matters to Obama. No ally of America in any part of the word can feel confident or secure with Obama in the White House, unless they are pursuing jihad conquest. Bloodthirsty jihadists are tearing through the Middle East, and Obama urges the good guys not to fight back.
    Obama wants the jihadists to win. There can be no other conclusion. Obama is unabashed in his anti-Semitism. Shocking. Creepy. Evil.

    The enemedia are no better. Algemeiner reported that BBC is promoting the lie that Israel is targeting civilians in Gaza (and the BBC is not the only one). The BBC has sprung into action to aid the savages in Gaza and put the proper spin on Hamas's genocidal war on their Jewish victims. There is nothing new in this. The enemedia are especially vicious when covering Israel.

    The leftist lapdogs of the jihad will sharpen the machetes of their own executioners if it advanced their own vicious anti-Semitism. The BBC is the worst of the worst. Der Stürmer 2014.

    The facts are that three Jewish school kids were kidnapped and killed, followed by an onslaught of Hamas rocket attacks on civilian targets. What nation would not defend itself?

    This is not just Israel's war. This is the fight in defense of freedom for all people.

    Just as it has been since 1948, Israel is fighting for her life against overwhelming odds. Pray for her.

    NBC Promotes Anonymous Palestinian Official Declaring Israeli Military Strike ‘A War Crime In The Making’

    In the wake of the Israeli military launching a ground offensive into the Gaza Strip to prevent Hamas militants from continuing to fire rockets into their country, NBC has repeatedly taken jabs at Israel and its military.

    In a report filed on Today on Sunday, July 20, Richard Engel, NBC’s Chief Foreign Correspondent, provided a fairly biased report on the ongoing violence in the Middle East which concluded by the reporter hyping a Palestinian official saying Israel’s ground attack “was a war crime in the making.”

    The NBC reporter began his coverage by highlighting “scenes of devastation in a Palestinian neighborhood called [sic] is just on the outskirts of Gaza City, we're seeing children and bodies in the streets, women and children. What happened, we're told, is that Israeli forces early this morning tried to push into [sic] push in with tanks and armored vehicles.”

    For his part, Richard Engel did note that “one Israeli armored vehicle was attacked by a Palestinian rocket, a shoulder fired rocket. That vehicle was a catastrophic loss. There were heavy Israeli casualties.” Unfortunately, nowhere in his report did Engel mention that the Israeli offensive was in response to ongoing Hamas rocket attacks into their country. instead, the NBC reporter chose to highlight the Palestinian deaths:
    Residents were desperately trying to call ambulances. Ambulances according to medical officials, were not able to reach the area. There was a lot of damage. Dozens killed. One Palestinian medical official said it was a war crime in the making.
    In recent days, NBC’s reporters have been seen showing sympathy for Hamas and the Palestinian people. On Wednesday, July 16, Andrea Mitchell, NBC’s Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent, wondered “how long can Israel withstand this kind of international pressure?” Reporter Ayman Mohyeldin, was recently seen acting as a spokesperson for Hamas by denying that they use civilians as human shields.

    The next day, Mohyeldin continued his trend of making controversial statements on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict when he wrote on his Facebook page “the #US State Department Spokesperson just said that #Hamas is ultimately responsible for #Israel shelling and killing 4 boys who were cousins aged 9-11 because Hamas didn’t accept the # ceasefire. Discuss among yourselves.”

From one of the most intense days of fighting, between the Israeli military and Hamas militants, one of the most intense days so far. Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel is in Gaza City now with more for us. Richard, good morning.

    RICHARD ENGEL: Good morning. I think you can say this is definitely the most intense day so far. Scenes of devastation in a Palestinian.

What happened, we're told, is that Israeli forces early this morning tried to push into [sic] push in with tanks and armored vehicles. Then Israel moved in with a rescue operation, sending in more troops, and to provide cover for that rescue operation they unleashed a ferocious bombardment on the neighborhood of [sic]. Residents were desperately trying to call ambulances. Ambulances according to medical officials, were not able to reach the area. There was a lot of damage. Dozens killed. One Palestinian medical official said it was a war crime in the making. Then amid pressure to try and create some sort of cease-fire, the two sides agreed to a two-hour window to allow Palestinians to go in, recover some of the bodies, even that window did not hold. The fighting there continues and this is hardly over.

    Jew-seeking Missiles, the Secure Border, and Other Nonsense

    I was thinking the world could not be more absurd when I read that a Hamas official announced to Arab Israelis they should not be fearful of their attacks because the missiles were designed to kill Jews only. This development is so outstanding that the Norwegians -- citizens of probably the most anti-Semitic country in Europe -- who decide the winners of the Nobel peace prize undoubtedly secretly voted on the spot to award it to Hamas this year.
    I was wrong, though, there must be some virus rapidly spreading across the globe that paralyzes brain cells, creating a world gone mad.
    The diversity proponents who have long exaggerated the numbers of gays, lesbians, or bisexuals in our midst had a bad moment this week when the Washington Post reported the results of a U.S. National Health Interview Survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Turns out that 96.6 percent of Americans say they are heterosexual; 1.1 percent declined to answer which means less than three percent of the U.S. population are gay, lesbian, or homosexual. This means, if we follow the proportional argument of diversicrats like those at the University of Wisconsin who argue “for representational equity” on race and ethnicity grounds, that conceding that on sexual grounds as well might mean disaster for a passel of Area studies which are grounded in gay/lesbian and bisexual culture.
    As the clever Alex Bensky notes:
    On one hand, Clarice, this means there are about as many Jews as there are homosexuals or bisexuals and that they’re a small minority that should not be invoked as a principal in most cases.
    On the other hand, the left has made a fetish of “diversity.” OK. Let’s take women’s studies departments. As you know, the great majority of American women oppose third trimester abortion -- I’d assume that the percentage who support eighth month abortion is lower. What percentage of women’s studies faculty members express any doubts at all about abortion on demand? And I’d guess that the percentage of such departments’ faculties who are lesbian is more than two percent.
    I may not agree with much of the gay political agenda but if someone sees herself as a lesbian or whatever, fine. As the Victorian actress Mrs. Patrick Campbell said, do what you want but don’t do it in the street and scare the horses.
    But if these faculties very much “overrepresent” lesbians and those who favor no restrictions on abortion at all, where is the “diversity?”
    I’m just saying this for rhetorical purposes, Clarice. If anything is obvious from the last five and a half years, all the left means by “diversity” is people who look different but think exactly alike. In my younger days I never thought that it would be the left, and especially the academic left, that was the great threat to free speech and free thought. Well, I never thought I’d get used to the designated hitter rule and I have, sort of.
    Equally nutty is the Democrat claim that the border is secure, as tens of thousands of illegals storm across it. I’m not making this up. Take a look at this video collection of Democrat politicians from Obama on down claiming that the border is more secure than ever.
    Less funny than watching these bald-faced liars who hope to bamboozle voters and Congress into thinking it’s okay to pass new amnesty legislation because the border is snapped shut and there will be no great tsunami of asylum seekers, is the knowledge that a fortune is being shelled out to house and feed and transport these people even as it is certainly falsely claimed by Obama that this is just temporary and many will be turned back. To hide what is going on -- and possibly to cover paybacks to cronies who help the sleight of hand, the leitmotif of this administration -- it has claimed and the media has repeated that the money is going to “faith-based” outfits. Just a little investigating by the Conservative Treehouse reveals that one major recipient, Baptist Child and Family Service (BCFS), which in one month alone received an almost $200 million grant, was not quite as represented:
    ...we are only half-way through the year and this entity has received over a QUARTER BILLION dollars. OK, now you’re beginning to get the picture.
    Taxpayer dollars.
    I’m thinking BCFS can afford a few soccer balls, no?
    So what in the world can a “faith based charity group” be spending all of that taxpayer money on ?…. and how big is this “charity” if the federal government portion therein is funding it to the tune of THAT MUCH money ?
    Well, apparently, other than “Federal Grant Work”, not much.
    In 2012 they pulled in $67,325,953.00 and $63,321,669 of taxpayer funds through DHS and HHS grants/contracts. That’s around 94% of their entire operational “charity revenue” from taxpayers.

    It is important to remember this information is only for one of the “faith-based organizations” you have heard about recently. There are many others who are in the same operational business model as Baptist Child and Family Services. For the sake of this outline we stopped with what appears to be the newest and the one everyone was inquiring about.
    However, given the scope of the expenditures, you might be interested to know that, again according to tax filing records, the United States Catholic Bishops also received $69.5 million in HHS grants for 2012 (LINK). Yes, that’s $69,500,000+ in grants. And yes, that’s about 98% of the total charity revenue for the organization. And yes, that’s for the exact same type of activity.
    Federal Charity courtesy of the U.S. Taxpayer. Is it really “charity” when the federal government is using the IRS to collect the “offering”?
    Other “religious charities” that have pushed for more generous immigration policies and are getting a substantial amount of their financing through tax revenues include the U.S. Catholic Bishops, the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, Episcopal Ministries, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, the Church World Service and World Relief Corp.
    Whatever your view on amnesty is, don’t you think it’s a conflict of interest to funnel hundreds of millions of tax dollars to groups that argue for it and then receive even more money to service the new immigrants?
    Speaking of amnesty, if you believed the administration and the press, you’d have thought the country was clamoring for more generous immigration policies. On the other hand, the voters beg to differ. The latest Rasmussen poll indicates that 59% of likely voters (the most reliable of samplings) don’t want the border jumpers housed in their states and want Congress to focus on sending them back.
    In Israel, young men and women are putting their lives at risk to destroy the Hamas tunnels (built with donations for concrete supplies and tunneling tools) which were constructed to allow for murders and kidnapping of civilians and to hide weapons which were not otherwise being stored in UNWRA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) schools and in hospitals and homes throughout Gaza. As the Israelis take extraordinary, unprecedented in wartime risks to spare civilians, Hamas deliberately puts Palestinians in harm’s way, hoping to create gory propaganda film. They are once again Palywooding it, using pictures of dead and wounded children in Syria and elsewhere to pretend these are Gazan casualties. Any paper that prints these now without thorough vetting is complicit in this continuing anti-Semitic propagandizing. As is the Washington Post for publishing this viciously false cartoon.
    And to wrap up the week, we had Obama once again demonstrating that without a written program in front of him, he is a gormless fraud, not the silver-tongued genius people like Michael Beschloss sold him to the voters as.
    Faced with the apparently willful shooting down of a commercial airline with about 300 passengers, including 80 children, on the conflict- torn Eastern Ukraine/Russian border, he said “It looks like it may be a terrible tragedy.” Then he told some scripted jokes, had a hamburger eating photo op, and attended a couple of fundraisers.
    Obviously even his crack staff considered that inadequate. The next day he denounced the shootdown as an "outrage of unspeakable proportions”. He made it clear, though, that he’d take no action until “a full investigation” of the incident had taken place. Like Thomas Lipscomb, I wonder when that will be, as it seems the black boxes were sent to Russia, the site is being restricted to the Russians and their allies in the rebel forces, the bodies are reportedly being dragged about and looted of jewelry, passports, and money. This doesn’t seem like it will ever be a fertile site for a ”full investigation”, But what do I know? The administration says it’s been doing a lot of investigating but when pressed, claim all they know they learned from press accounts.

    IDF Calls Out UN for Lying About Gaza Civilian Casualties


    UN Relief and Works Agency blamed IDF for civilian deaths

    Israel is calling out a United Nations aid agency for falsely claiming that the Israeli Defense Forces did not permit civilians to evacuate a Gaza school where 15 people were killed today.
    The U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) laid blame for the civilian deaths on the IDF, claiming it never received approval from the IDF for an evacuation from the facility.
    UNRWA—which has been under fire in recent days for allowing Hamas to use its facilities to store rockets—released a statement claiming: “UNRWA had been attempting to negotiate with the [IDF] a pause in the fighting during which they would guarantee a safe corridor to relocate staff and any displaced persons who chose to evacuate to a more secure location. Approval for that never came to UNRWA.”
    Earlier, UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunness had similarly accused the IDF of preventing a civilian evacuation.
    “Over the course of the day UNRWA tried 2 coodinate [sic] with the Israeli Army a window for civilians 2 leave & it was never granted,” UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunness tweeted, following the strike.
    However, in an unusual move late Thursday, multiple IDF sources rejected UNRWA’s claims and characterized them as outright falsehoods when reached by the Washington Free Beacon.
    “For two days we were trying to move people out of that school in particular and the Beit Hanoun area in general,” said an IDF official who was involved in the interactions between the IDF, UNRWA, and International Red Cross (ICRC) leading up to the incident.
    The official continued: “This morning we sought a cease-fire in the area and a humanitarian evacuation of civilians, but Hamas refused—because they wanted to keep civilians in the area to protect their fighters who were firing on the IDF,” the source said. The claim by Gunness and UNRWA that the IDF did not respond to their request to evacuate civilians, the source said, is “a flat-out complete and total lie.”
    When asked for further details about the incident, UNRWA claimed that its school in Beit Hanoun had been turned into “a battlefield” in recent days.
    Many Palestinians, including women and children, had sought shelter from the fighting in the school, believing it to be safe territory, according to UNRWA.
    “This is the fourth time in the past four days that an UNRWA school has been struck by explosive projectiles,” UNRWA said.
    An official IDF statement released to the Free Beacon states that “the IDF authorized a humanitarian time window for evacuation between 10:00-14:00 IDT earlier today. Hamas prevented the civilians from leaving it and once again used their infrastructure and international symbols as human shields. In the course of the afternoon, several rockets launched by Hamas from within the Gaza Strip landed in the Beit Hanoun area.”
    “From initial inquiries done about the incident, during the intense fighting in the area, militants opened fire at IDF soldiers from the school area,” the statement says. “In order to eliminate the threat posed to their lives, they responded with fire toward the origins of the shooting.”
    “The UNRWA claims that Israel prevented the safe evacuation of the school in Beit Hanoun are unfounded,” the statement concludes.
    The source of the explosion is being investigated by the IDF.
    “It should be emphasized that during recent days the [Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories] has been maintaining close contact with representatives of the UNRWA, the ICRC, and Palestinians in Beit Hanoun,” the statement concludes. “It should be further emphasized that following this contact, the humanitarian window was authorized.”

    If Obama doesn't save Hamas

    Slandered, despised, insulted, degraded, Israel is nonetheless winning its war against Hamas. The number of rocket attacks launched by the terror group each day has been halved. The IDF is uprooting the underground tunnels Hamas uses to smuggle weapons, contraband, and terrorists in and out of the Gaza Strip. On Wednesday evening, Israel’s Channel Two newscast carried footage of Hamas terrorists surrendering to the IDF. The jihadists carried white flags. They stripped to their shorts, proving they were not wearing suicide belts. These are facts Hamas does not want you to know, images Hamas does not want you to see.
    And you probably won’t see them. Since the evening of July 17, when Israel launched its ground offensive, Western media has been filled with Hamas propaganda. In the United States, the debate over the conflict is invariably couched in terms favorable to Hamas: Are civilian casualties too high? Is it safe to fly into Ben-Gurion airport? Has the IDF targeted schools and hospitals? One MSNBC anchor calls Israel, which abandoned Gaza in 2005, the “occupying authority.” Another praises a “gutsy” Israeli, who refuses to serve in his nation’s military.
    On CNN, the Islamist Turkish prime minister says Israel has “surpassed what Hitler did.” A CNN reporter calls Israelis “scum”; a NBC reporter tweets a scurrilous article calling U.S. Jews who join the IDF “America’s Israeli jihadists”; and a writer for Gawker says it’s time to send the Jews back to Germany. Reporters once embedded with military forces. Now the talking points of a military force—the talking points of Hamas—are embedded in the U.S. media.
    And yet the immediate danger to the success of this necessary war does not come from the electronic intifada. It does not come from resurgent anti-Semitism, or the United Nations Human Rights Council, or the failure of so many Western elites to recognize the causes of this war, their inability to distinguish between a democratic country struggling to protect its people and a terror state using children as hostages. Hate, law-fare, decadence—they are all challenges for Israel. But Israel can endure them for now. Israel is used to it.
    What Israel should not endure is the premature conclusion of hostilities. Disarming Hamas—seizing its rocket caches, collapsing its tunnels, killing and capturing its forces—is vital to Israeli security. And an artificial ceasefire imposed by outside powers, a ceasefire written in terms favorable to Hamas, would undermine the security gains Israel has made to date. President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have given no sign that they recognize this fact. Or maybe they understand it all too well: The Obama administration’s top priority is imposing a ceasefire at exactly the moment when Israel’s military success is becoming clear.
    Secretary Kerry arrived in Cairo earlier this week. No one wanted him there. Egypt’s ruler, General Sisi, has no interest in saving Hamas through international diplomacy: The Muslim Brotherhood is his mortal enemy. Kerry then went from Cairo to Jerusalem, where he met with U.N. Secretary Ban Ki-moon, who flew to the meeting on a plane chartered by Qatar, Hamas’ primary source of cash. Kerry also met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is too gracious to tell the secretary to go back to Boston. (Israel’s former ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, has said publicly what the Israeli government will not: Kerry is an unwelcome guest.) Next up was Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority, who honored Kerry’s presence by endorsing Hamas’s call for a “Day of Rage” in the West Bank. Kerry “will soon decide if Hamas and Israel are willing to agree on a Gaza ceasefire,” Reuters says.
    Kerry will decide? Who died and made him king?
    There is no ceasefire in Gaza because a ceasefire is in no one’s interest. Israel’s objective is clear: degrade Hamas’ capability to fire rockets at Israeli civilians and attack Israeli communities from underground. As for Hamas, its interest is irrational, macabre, and deranged, but no less obvious: Promote itself as the leader of the worldwide struggle against Zionism and Judaism, while ensuring collateral damage that will foment outrage at Israel. That is why Hamas stores weapons in schools, why its military headquarters is in the basement of a hospital. Hamas is not interested in minimizing pain. Hamas wants to maximize it.
    Who wants a ceasefire? Obama and Kerry. They need the diplomatic victory after the failure of their misguided and poorly executed bid to reconcile the irreconcilable. The president’s approval rating on foreign policy is abysmal. A ceasefire might help the American people forget, just for a moment, that their president has failed to influence events in Ukraine, Syria, and Iraq, let alone advance American interests overseas. Since he became president, Israel is the one country in the world in whose affairs President Obama has seemed at all interested in intervening. It is the one country whose politics and actions Obama has had no trouble judging harshly. Next to golf, it’s his favorite pastime.
    Who wants a ceasefire? Qatar. The sheikhs who bankroll the Muslim Brotherhood, Al Jazeera, and Hamas would see their status rise. A ceasefire would lend credence to the theory that the traditional Sunni powers—Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia—have been eclipsed both by Shiite Iran and by Brotherhood-friendly Sunnis in the Gulf and Turkey. Having lost Egypt and possibly Gaza, the Brotherhood finds itself on the precipice. A Qatari-backed ceasefire that does not include disarmament of Hamas would pull the movement back from the abyss.
    “One of the results, one would hope, of a cease-fire would be some form of demilitarization, so that again, this doesn’t continue, doesn’t repeat itself,” said Tony Blinken, Obama’s deputy national security adviser, to NPR. One would hope so. Indeed, actual demilitarization—not hoped for, not partial—is exactly what the IDF is doing now, block by block, tunnel by tunnel. Why is the administration trying to stop it? Is a ceasefire that leaves Hamas with its arsenal really more desirable to them than another week of war?
    This is not the time for President Obama and John Kerry to play to type, to promote bad agreements for self-satisfaction, for political gain. If they won’t stand behind Israel, they should at least get out of the way. And let the IDF finish the job.
