When this was going on it was common knowledge that Jared Kushner and Ivanka were attempting to influence Trump into giving the so-called DACA kids citizenship. Moreover, it is a very real possibility that they are the reason he failed to keep his promise to end DACA when he got into the White House!

That's so sweet of you to blame other people for influencing Trump, but the reality is he makes up his own mind and most of the ideas of how to get things done or sometimes not done, are actually his.

OK--so he made up is his own mind to give amnesty, tweet daily his love for DACA, not want to separate the children. He made up his own mind to betray the voters and do a 360 on his campaign promises.

Yes, it was totally his own management decision, get 70 things you want and need versus 1 you don't. To Trump if he got everything he asked for in exchange for a DACA of some sort, to him it was worth it and the best thing to do. If he didn't get everything he wanted, then kill it or veto it and blame the DemoQuacks, which is exactly what he did.

I'd say it has been fairly well established that Trump is easily manipulated and influenced by those he has chosen to surround himself with.

Melania Trump on Donald Trump (excerpt):

She then went on to describe him as a boy (“I have two boys at home. I have my young son and my husband”) who is easily influenced and will go along with whatever he’s told to do or say.

    Excerpt:

Trump’s hints that he might "soften" on immigration by allowing some unauthorized immigrants to remain in the US came a few days after he met with his Hispanic advisory group, many of whom support immigration reform that legalizes unauthorized immigrants in some way.

According to Costa’s reporting, Trump’s continued twists and turns over the issue over the course of the week were the result of whom he was talking to: advisers who either wanted him to stand his ground on immigration, like campaign CEO Steve Bannon and trusted ally Jeff Sessions, or who wanted him to moderate, like campaign manager Kellyanne Conway and surrogate Rudy Giuliani.

    Excerpt:

How do they manage it? It doesn't seem too hard, because they're smart politicians who took Trump's measure and realized he's an easy mark. All you need to do is pay him a compliment or two ("Oh yes, Mr. Trump, your Electoral College victory certainly was impressive"), and he'll do almost anything you want. Because he knows nothing about issues, you can shape his views to align with yours; he's notoriously influenced by the last person he spoke to about anything. He seems terribly impressed by accomplished people, and desperate for validation and compliments.

    Excerpt:

The message this sends to foreign leaders is that Trump is not well-versed in the issues about which he confidently pontificates, but that he can quickly be persuaded to come around to their view—hardly the strength Trump promised he would bring to the White House. The Chinese government seems to have grasped that Trump was a blank slate, pushing for a face-to-face meetingbetween the two men early in Trump’s term so that Xi could help set the agenda and terms for their relationship. Trump’s tendency to take up the position of the last person with whom he spoke on a given issue has been widely noted.

I could go on and on providing examples on how easily Trump is easily influenced and manipulated but I think my point has been made.
