MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Alabama's Treasurer and Republican gubernatorial candidate Kay Ivey is asking Alabamians to play a role in an upcoming special election in Massachusetts.

Voters there will fill the Senate seat left vacant by the death of the late Senator Ted Kennedy (D) on Tuesday, and Ivey is asking her supporters to get behind Republican Scott Brown.

Ivey says a victory for Brown would give Republicans the critical 41st vote needed to break the Democrats' two-thirds majority and would likely defeat the Obama Administration's healthcare bill.

Ivey updated her campaign website (www.kayivey.org) Thursday with a link directing readers to Brown's website where she called on Alabamians to volunteer to donate to Brown's campaign.

During the Alabama legislative session Alabama gubernatorial candidates can not accept fundraising.

Ivey is looking to supporters to donate time and resources to Brown during that time.
