Turnout in Tuesday's election was 23.7 percent, up slightly from the March primary election, city officials said Wednesday. There were a total of 427,392 ballots cast in the election, although there remains 82,185 outstanding ballots to be counted, City Clerk spokeswoman Kimberly Briggs said.
These include provisional ballots and vote-by-mail ballots that were turned in on Tuesday at polling places. The City Clerk's office has three weeks to certify the results.
The number of outstanding ballots is not expected to affect the outcome of any races, since they generally break down in the same way as votes cast at the election.
The turnout in the March primary election was 20.79 percent.
