Lawmaker tries to end elected official pensions

Some public employee union leaders, under siege with calls for pension reform, have called on elected officials and executive managers to lead by example.

Assemblyman Curt Hagman, R-Diamond Bar, is trying to make part of that happen. The lawmaker, whose district includes parts or all of Anaheim, La Habra, Orange, Villa Park and Yorba Linda, introduced a bill Tuesday that would end pensions for all local and statewide elected officials in California.

That means city council members, district attorneys, water board members, etc. – the whole shebang. Similar laws applying to members of the state Senate and Assembly, and school board members are already in place.

The measure would apply to any such official elected after Dec. 31, and would save millions, according to Hagman.
