MIAMI – A South Florida radio station said to be dumping its left-leaning "progressive" radio format in favor of sports is apparently being begged by some not to make the change.

The Miami Herald recently reported that even "though the station isn't confirming it, WINZ-940 will become a Fox Sports radio affiliate in March – a move that will allow owner Clear Channel to reduce costs."

WINZ at present broadcasts news and talk, along with basketball coverage of the NBA's Miami Heat.

On its website, the station lists its current programming as Don Imus, Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann, Mike Malloy, Lionel and Air America.

Now, at least one listener who identifies himself as a former engineer for WINZ, is circulating an e-mail stating the station is going to switch from a "progressive honest talk format to right-wing greedy bastards format."

He urges people to contact station manager Ken Charles to compel him not to allow the switch.

The note closes with this message: "It could not hurt to not mention that you are not in Miami."

A spokeswoman for WINZ's corporate parent, Clear Channel Communications, would not comment on the format issue of the Miami station, but told WND that "Clear Channel has more progressive talk stations than any other radio broadcaster in America."

Clear Channel also runs another news and talk station in Miami, WIOD-AM. That station features well-known talkers on the right of the political spectrum, including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Mark Levin.

Ha ha ha , not enough liberal listeners huh? I think I might call this station manager and let him know that some of the callers who are "Miami residents" might be confused. I'll suggest he have a method to verify their residency. Its not that difficult to do, for anyone other than the U.S. government.
