Local Couple Busted Transporting Illegal Drugs

    Posted: May 28, 2011 11:02 PM EDT
NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Two local people are busted for transporting illegal drugs down I-40.

Arkansas State Police busted Vanessa Kessler and Alexander Morales earlier this month in Western Arkansas. Both are from Nashville. Investigators say they had cocaine and drug paraphernalia on them.

Police arrested them after their vehicle slowed down after passing the trooper. The officer discovered the cocaine in the fender of the vehicle. The two have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Speedway Hopes New Mufflers will Quiet Neighbors' Complaints

    Posted: May 28, 2011 8:43 PM EDT

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- After months of controversy and debate, racing makes its return to the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Saturday, marked the start of race season at the speedway, and thousands showed up to see it happen.

This is the day fairgrounds supporters have been waiting for and the reason they fought so hard for the chance to bring racing back to Nashville.

Organizers say the crowds started pouring in as soon as the gates opened and by mid-afternoon, nearly 2,000 people were in the stands. The controversy surrounding the track stemmed from neighbors who complained about the noise, and they said racing at the fairgrounds was ruining their quality of life.

During Saturday's races, every car was equipped with special mufflers designed to reduce the amount of noise being produced. The general manager of the speedway said it's part of their efforts to be a good neighbor. He also says the battle to get to this day was well worth it.

"I think just the excitement, knowing we've accomplished something for the future of the sport because the Fairgrounds Speedway USA is a lot like the Ryman auditorium. It has a place and should always be a part of the history of Nashville Tennessee," said Donnie Redd, Fairgrounds Speedway General Manager.

It would be interesting to know....which came first.....
In Santa Clarita, Ca..... the race track was there b/4 any houses nearby.....The houses were built and then the homeowners complained about the noise....and the homeowners won and now the race track is gone.....
I have great memories about the demolition dirbys and other races they USED to have there ...

The homeowners KNEW the race track was there and bought anyhow....and they won
