    London elects Sadiq Khan first Muslim mayor

    Sadiq Khan, Britain's Labour Party candidate for Mayor of London, leaves after casting his vote in the London mayoral elections at a polling station in south London on May 5, 2016.

    LONDON -- Labour Party politician Sadiq Khan has been elected London mayor -- the first Muslim to lead Europe's largest city.

    Election officials say Khan defeated Conservative rival Zac Goldsmith by more than 300,000 votes, after first- and second-preference votes were allocated.

    The result came early Saturday, more than 24 hours after polls closed.

    Khan was elected to replace Conservative Mayor Boris Johnson after a campaign marked by U.S.-style negative campaigning.

    Goldsmith, a wealthy environmentalist, called Khan divisive and accused him of sharing platforms with Islamic extremists.

    Khan, who calls himself "the British Muslim who will take the fight to the extremists," accused Goldsmith of trying to scare and divide voters in a proudly multicultural city of 8.6 million people -- more than 1 million of them Muslim.

    London’s new Muslim mayor calls moderate Muslims “Uncle Toms”

    He apologizes now. Before too long, however, all major politicians in the UK will repudiate “Uncle Tom” Muslim groups, and demand that the majority be given what it wants: Sharia.

    “Sadiq Khan issues grovelling apology after video shows him using ‘Uncle Toms’ slur against moderate Muslims,”
    by James Tapsfield, Mailonline, May 4, 2016:

    Labour’s candidate for London Mayor has issued a grovelling apology after it emerged that he had described moderate Muslim groups as ‘Uncle Toms’.

    Sadiq Khan said he regretted using the term, which is notorious racial slur used against black people to suggest that they are subservient to whites.

    But he also insisted he would ‘respect’ everyone in the capital if he was elected, and lashed out at tactics employed by Tory rival Zac Goldsmith during the battle.

    The incendiary claim surfaced in an interview with Iranian-backed Press TV from 2009, when Mr Khan was ‘minister for community cohesion’, in charge of Government efforts to stamp out extremism.

    The revelation is a major blow for Mr Khan, who has faced a string of claims about his past dealings with Muslim extremists during the bitter campaign to succeed Boris Johnson.

    Mr Khan has dismissed Tory attacks as baseless ‘smears’, and insisted that he was a moderate Muslim.

    The Tooting MP himself condemned the use of the Uncle Tom term in recent days while attacking former London Mayor Ken Livingstone for his offensive claim that Hitler was a Zionist.

    Asked on LBC Radio at the weekend whether he considered terms such as ‘Zio and Uncle Tom’ to be racist, he replied: ‘They are racist, they should not be used. The harsh truth is this – the comments from Ken Livingstone were appalling and disgusting and should have no place in our party.’

    Challenged about 2009 the comments in interviews today, Mr Khan said: ‘It is (a racial slur) and I regret using that phrase.

    ‘The context was me trying to encourage everyone to get involved in government consultations.’

    He told ITV News London. ‘I was a minister at the time. It was wrong and I regret it.’

    Speaking on LBC he said: ‘I regret using the phrase and I am sorry.

    ‘The point I was trying to make was that I wanted to talk to anyone.’

    Mr Khan suggested he himself would have been a target for the slur, pointing out that there were protests outside his local mosque when he first stood for parliament.

    He said he had been ‘disappointed’ by Mr Goldsmith’s tactics during the battle, which have included repeated claims about his links to extremists. ‘I thought he was his own man,’ Mr Khan said….

    In the 2009 interview with Press TV Mr Khan was asked why the Government’s counter-extremism strategy focused on working with moderate Muslim groups like the respect Quilliam Foundation.

    He responded: ‘I wish we only spoke to people who agree with us. I can tell you that I’ve spent the last months in this job speaking to all sorts of people. Not just leaders, not just organisations but ordinary rank and file citizens of Muslim faith and that’s what good government is about, it’s about engaging with all stakeholders. You can talk about articles in the newspapers about what an organisation might get but the point is you can’t just pick and choose who you speak to, you can’t just speak to Uncle Toms.’

    London’s new Muslim mayor defended al-Qaeda member

    The revelations about Khan’s ties to jihadis and Islamic supremacists did not stop him from being elected. This is the New Britain, and much, much more is to come as it continues on its merry journey of appeasement of Islamic supremacists, on it way to becoming a Sharia state.

    “London Is About To Elect A Muslim Mayor Who Has Defended Islamists, 9/11 Terrorists, And Who Is Endorsed By
    Anti-Semites,” by Raheem Kassam, Breitbart, May 3, 2016:

    Londoners go to the polls on Thursday to choose a replacement for the outgoing Mayor, Boris Johnson MP. Despite the fact the Labour Party is currently mired in an anti-Semitism scandal, if all things remain equal, expect the party’s candidate Sadiq Khan MP to be confirmed in the early hours of Friday morning.

    Mr. Khan, 45, has had a successful career in the Labour Party, being elected to parliament in 2005, becoming a Minister of State in 2008 with a promotion in 2009. He was a Shadow Secretary of State for Justice from 2010-15, and has been running for London Mayor since then.

    POLLING

    In fact, as I predicted in January, the polls have changed very little since the beginning of the year. This is despite a negative-ad onslaught by the Conservative Party and its candidate Zac Goldsmith – the multi-millionaire son of Eurosceptic royalty Sir James Goldsmith, and brother of socialite and Vanity Fair editor Jemima Khan.

    Mr. Goldsmith and his ‘Back Zac’ campaign have used the last few months to highlight Sadiq Khan’s proximity to Islamic extremists, extremism, and this past weekend, to anti-Semitism.

    But perhaps it speaks to the mindset of Londoners, and certainly the British capital’s demographic shift, that such news has scarcely affected Mr. Khan.

    In January, a YouGov poll put Mr. Goldsmith on 35 to Mr. Khan’s 45 per cent. When you take into account London’s supplementary voting system, the numbers after the second preference votes are counted ended up 45-55 to Mr. Khan.

    Last week, that number stood at 40-6o to Mr. Khan. After second preference votes, the extremist-adjacent candidate has a 20 point poll lead.

    While last week’s events – when one of Mr. Khan’s most prominent backers Ken Livingstone was implicated in a Hitler/anti-Semitism scandal – may serve to keep some of Mr. Khan’s voters at home, it is hard to imagine the Conservatives overturning such a drastic poll lead….

    And Mr. Khan can hardly claim a clean record. Mr. Goldsmith’s attacks are not without basis, though they have been shrugged off as “racism” or “Islamophobia” with the assistance of the left’s useful idiots like Owen Jones. Apart from his somewhat threatening statements about not voting for him while claiming that “he is the West”, Mr. Khan’s own track record is perhaps one of the most sour of all Muslim politicians in the Western world.

    In 2001 he was the lawyer for the Nation of Islam in its successful High Court bid to overturn the 15-year-ban on its leader, Louis Farrakhan.

    In 2005 and 2006 he visited terror-charged Babar Ahmad in Woodhill Prison. Mr. Ahmed was extradited to the U.S. in 2012, serving time in prison before being returned to the UK in 2015. Mr. Ahmed pleaded guilty to the terrorist offences of conspiracy, and providing material support to the Taliban.

    And Mr. Khan also campaigned for the release and repatriation of Shaker Aamer, Britain’s last Guantanamo detainee, who was returned to the UK in November.

    Both Messrs Aamer and Ahmed provided Mr. Khan with links to the advocacy group CAGE, which described the Islamic State executioner Mohammed Emwazi as a “beautiful young man”, and which has campaigned on behalf of both men. Mr. Khan is reported to have shared a stage with five Islamic extremists, including at sex-segregated events. Even so, his poll numbers remain firm.

    The ConservativeHome website lists even more concerns, including:

    A letter to the Guardian in the wake of the 7/7 terrorist bombings on London, blaming terrorism on British Government policy;

    His legal defence of Zacarias Moussaoui, a 9/11 terrorist who confessed to being a member of Al Qaeda;

    His chapter in a book, entitled ‘Actions Against the Police’ which advises on how to bring charges against the police for “racism”. This is the same police force that Mr. Khan as London mayor would exercise authority over;

    His defence of Islamist extremist Azzam Tamimi. When Dr. Tamimi told a crowd that the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed would “cause the world to tremble” and predicted “Fire… throughout the world if they don’t stop”, Mr. Khan, who shared a platform with him, dismissed the threats as “flowery language”;

    His platform-sharing with Suliman Gani, a south London imam who has urged female subservience to men, and called for the founding of an Islamic state.
