GREENSBORO, N.C. - A Greensboro husband and wife were arrested and charged Wednesday with planning to hurt or kill a Guilford County detention officer, according to the sheriff's office.

State investigators said Mohamed Hassanien Abdelaal and his wife, Lovie Annette Dodson Abdelaal, of 5106 Windermere Dr., asked a former inmate at the Guilford County Detention Center to hurt or kill the officer.

The former inmate, whose identity was not announced, told Thomasville police about the plan, and the police notified the Guilford County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives with the sheriff's office determined there was a personal relationship between the former inmate and Lovie Abdelaal, who was a nurse at the detention center during the time of the inmate's incarceration. Personal communications were exchanged between the two, including a meeting at which Abdelaal asked the former inmate to kill or hurt the detention officer, the sheriff's office said.

On Wednesday, detectives searched the Abdelaals' home for additional evidence. The two were arrested and jailed in Davidson County under $10,000 bonds.

Because the investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, the State Bureau of Investigation was asked to help with the case.

The sheriff's office has not identified a motive for the Abdelaals' alleged plan.
