XENIA, OHIO — A Kettering man said to be the leader of a heroin and cocaine operation in the region was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison, fined $20,000 and ordered to forfeit five vehicles.

Cesar Valentine Lopez-Ruiz, 21, also was ordered to forfeit 6,000 pesos valued at $507 and pay $750 to the city of Beavercreek for lab tests on substances seized during searches in Beavercreek and Kettering.

Judge Stephen Wolaver of Greene County Common Pleas Court handed down the sentence.

Lopez-Ruiz, convicted on charges of racketeering, conspiracy and drug trafficking, was credited for 284 days in jail since his arrest April 17.

He was arrested at 925 Donson Drive in Kettering, his residence, where authorities also seized heroin, according to Bruce May, Greene County drug task force commander.

He characterized Lopez-Ruiz as leader of a six-man group of illegal immigrants from Mexico, broken up by arrests in Beavercreek in March, Lopez-Ruiz's home and another Kettering residence in April.

The vehicles Wolaver ordered forfeited were a Dodge Ram pick-up, Dodge Charger, Land Rover, Lincoln Continental and Ford pick-up, according to court records.
