BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A 4-year-old California boy may be permanently blinded after police say his father bit out one of his eyes and mutilated the other.

Bakersfield police say 34-year-old Angel Vidal Mendoza appeared to be under the influence of PCP when he attacked the boy April 28. Afterwards police say Mendoza rolled his wheelchair outside and began hacking at his own legs with an ax.

Four-year-old Angelo Mendoza Jr. told police, "my daddy ate my eyes."
Doctors at Mercy Hospital say it's unclear whether Angelo will regain vision in his right eye.

The boy's mother wasn't home at the time.

Mendoza is due in court Wednesday. Charges include mayhem, torture and child cruelty. Jail officials say they don't know whether he has an attorney.

What in the hell is wrong with people. Why would you have a child with a guy like that much less leave him alone with a child.

I could have gone my whole live without reading a story like this.

We don't know that the father is an illegal alien. One things for sure though, he has a nasty drug habit and as Dixie said, the child should never have been left alone with him. IMO, assuming the mother knew of her husbands drug usage, she should be prosecuted for child endangerment.

I noticed something rather interesting. In the comments after the article ( http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/ ... tml?&wired ), someone posted another article, with no link, mentioning Mendoza was not deported in the past because he was supporting a family, which would lead us to believe he was an illegal alien. BUT, I have searched all over the internet and cannot find that article. Can any of you find it?

Copy and paste his name into the GOOGLE search box, or type it in as, Angel Vidal Mendoza , chick on search, and it will take you to dozens of articles and news show videos.

I found the article on the site that you mentioned. If it had the headline on it you can also copy the headline and paste it into to search box or type it letter by letter into the search box, click on search, and it will usually take you to that article and others of a similar headline. But of course the headline was missing.

But here is the quote from that article for everyone to see:

Mendoza has a criminal history, however. He has 22 other cases filed in Kern County going back to 1995. Some of the previous cases involve drug use, and a case filed in 1998 involves charges of battery and burglary. INS was contacted in many of those cases, however Mendoza was not deported as he was supporting his family at the time.

Thanks, JohnDoe2. I know how to do a Google search. My point was that I cannot find the article that mentions that Mendoza was not deported as a result of earlier crimes with a valid link to its original site. None of the articles I found mentioned anything about it.
